Human Resources and Recruitment Specialist (Open Rank, Entry – Senior HR Professional)

Job Summary:

This full-time, University Staff (non-classified) position will be responsible for supporting the human resources needs and functions of the Department of Surgery and its 8 divisions including Cardio Thoracic Surgery, GI Trauma and Endocrine Surgery, Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Surgical Oncology, Transplant Surgery, Pediatric Surgery, Vascular, and Urology. Under the supervision of the HR Program Manager, the HR and Recruitment Specialist will work closely and collaboratively with the Department of Surgery Employee Relations Program Manager, Director of Operations, School of Medicine Director of Human Resources, and School of Medicine Director of Faculty Affairs. This position will work across the HR sub-groups, dedicating 50% of their time towards the specialist duties, and allocating the other 50% towards recruitment duties; these percentages are subject to change based on workload.

Key Responsibilities:

Specialist Duties: 50%

  • Assist with the faculty hiring and credentialing process; create request for application, assist incoming faculty with credentialing process, package hiring paperwork and submit through the eFRF, manage credentialing timelines, complete HCM hiring process.
  • Responsible for processing background checks, vacation payouts, funding distributions changes, secondary appointments, POI access requests, I9, and various HR Transactions as assigned.
  • Serve as the payroll liaison for the department and assist with processing the monthly payroll batch.
  • Utilize Human Capital Management (HCM) to complete various HR tasks.
  • Utilize Smartsheet to track various HR processes.
  • Responsible for maintaining faculty and staff files.
  • Provide Human Resources guidance to various divisions.
  • Serve as a backup to the HR Specialist
  • Other HR Specialist duties as assigned.
Recruitment Duties: 50%
  • Assist with the lifecycle of University Staff position creation, recruitment, search conduction, and hiring.
  • Review and evaluate job descriptions; assist with job level placement.
  • Process postings on CU Careers, post on various job boards, and assist with the DOS LinkedIn management.
  • Schedule interviews between candidates and search committee; assisting on the search committee and providing interview coaching to employees within the department.
  • Actively recruit and source for candidates
  • Create staff letters of offer, conduct background checks, process salary approvals, and complete HCM hiring process.
  • Utilize Smartsheet to track various HR processes.
  • Advise hiring managers on recruitment best practices and ensure the department abides by University policy and state/federal employment laws
  • Serve as a backup to the Recruitment Specialist

Work Location:

Hybrid – this role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 2 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

Entry Level

  • A bachelor's degree in business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
Intermediate Level
  • A bachelor's degree in business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • One year (1) of experience working in Human Resources
Senior Level
  • A bachelor's degree in business, higher education administration, social sciences, behavioral sciences or a directly related field from an accredited institution.
  • A combination of education and related technical/paraprofessional experience may be substituted for the bachelor's degree on a year for year basis.
  • Two years (2) of experience working in Human Resources
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Related experience working in an academic medical center.
  • Experience utilizing Human Capital Management (HCM), Smartsheet, and CU Careers
  • Experience with recruitment, job evaluations, and candidate sourcing
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Ability to analyze, interpret, and evaluate a broad range of laws, rules, and regulations in order to exercise good judgment in applying them to human resource challenges.
  • Knowledge of the professional standards, concepts, and practices of recruitment and selection, employee relations, or organizational development and human resource policy.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both in writing and orally, including public speaking.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees at all levels throughout the institution.
  • Demonstrated commitment and leadership ability to advance diversity and inclusion.
  • Thorough knowledge of current management and leadership methods and best practices.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality while working with sensitive information.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established as:
Entry Level: $43,511 - $55,346
Intermediate Level: $47,350 - $60,230
Senior Level: $51,190 - $65,113
The above salary range (*or hiring range*) represents the University's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
