Class Description

CCBC is currently seeking an individual prepared to teach various Human Services Counseling or Social Work courses in accordance with course outlines and published course schedules. Fifteen credit hours of instruction per semester, office hours, college and community service, and ongoing professional development are required. The position is located on one of our campuses but may require teaching classes at other locations scheduled during days, evenings or weekends.

Preferred candidates are enthusiastic about content and pedagogy, use best teaching practices, and are committed to student learning. Preference will be given to applicants who present evidence of excellence in teaching, experience at the Community College level, and those who through education and experience demonstrate ability to teach across multiple disciplines. Minimum Requirements

Required

  • Masters Degree in a related field, such as Human Services, Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Adult or Higher Education, or Social Work;
  • experience working with diverse student populations;
  • demonstrated ability and interest in teaching a variety of survey or clinical courses in the human services counseling fields;
  • demonstrated ability to teach online.

Preferred

  • experience teaching at the post-secondary level;
  • some community college teaching experience;
  • experience supporting grant-funded projects;
  • familiarity with licensure and certification processes for Counselors, Social Workers, or Peer Recovery Specialists, and ability to advise students through those processes;
  • experience teaching students in Early College Access Programs;
  • demonstrated leadership in higher education settings, or graduate coursework in higher education or community college leadership.

Class Specific Essential Duties

  • Facilitate and support student learning by developing and providing clear and effective instruction using traditional and technology based instruction.
  • Meet all classes as assigned during instructional periods. Basic teaching load is 15 contact hours each week.
  • Communicate effectively with students by disseminating academic information including syllabi and academic policies and by responding to e-mails and phone calls from students in a timely manner.
  • Provide opportunities to meet with students (office hours) at least one hour each week for scheduled or unscheduled meetings for each three credits of teaching contact hours.
  • Provide effective and appropriate assessment with prompt qualitative and quantitative feedback.
  • Keep instructional materials and student work organized and accessible.
  • Maintain the Learning Management System site, providing students access to syllabi, grades and other supplemental course material.
  • Support students and other college units and comply with relevant state and federal laws (nominate tutors, write letters of recommendation, refer students to counseling, assist students with special needs, suggest library purchases, help resolve registration issues, maintain student privacy).
  • Collaborate with colleagues in ongoing curricular development including content update, curricular alignment, assessment activities and record keeping.
  • Collaborate with staff by completing and submitting reports and documentation in a timely manner.
  • Attend and participate in committee, departmental, College and School meetings.
  • Provide College and Community Service through collegial and individual initiatives.
  • Maintain and develop professional expertise through ongoing professional development or scholarship.
