The Instructional Design Assistant provides specialized support to the Online Learning Design team by assisting the ID team and online faculty with online course development, ensuring accessibility compliance, and supporting instructional design best practices. This position combines administrative coordination with hands-on instructional design tasks to enhance the quality and accessibility of online learning experiences at UMSL and across the UMSystem.
Key Responsibilities
Program Tracking & Documentation
- Maintain accurate records of faculty participation in online teaching certification programs and course design initiatives
- Track deadlines, deliverables, and progress for multiple projects using spreadsheets or project management tools
- Assist in compiling reports and summaries for online ID team review
Course Design Support
- Assist faculty in preparing and organizing course materials for online delivery
- Apply basic instructional design principles to structure content in the LMS
- Ensure compliance with accessibility standards for digital course content
Digital Course Content Accessibility Support
- Create quick guides and tutorials for faculty on online teaching tools
- Assist ID team with remediating online course content as part of assignment or module redesign
- Assist ID team with coordinating ID input on digital accessibility content exception requests
- Coordinate and update scheduling for digital accessibility workshops offered at UMSL and across the UM-System
- Communicate workshop dates and registration details to campus stakeholders; remind registered faculty and staff about engagement details
- Ensure calendars and event platforms reflect accurate and timely information
Quality Assurance
- Review course content for alignment with accessibility and design guidelines
- Help maintain consistency in course templates and instructional design standards
Workshop Coordination & Facilitation
- Coordinate and update scheduling for digital accessibility workshops offered at UMSL and across the UM System
- Assist in preparing workshop materials and resources
- Support delivery of sessions on accessibility and online teaching best practices
Program Tracking & Reporting
- Track faculty progress in online teaching certification programs
- Compile participation data and feedback for continuous improvement
Administrative Support
- Process paperwork related to faculty development programs
- Assist with paperwork related to faculty peer reviewer program
- Organize and maintain digital and physical files for course design projects
- Provide support for special projects as assigned by the Senior Director
Working Conditions
- Hybrid work environment with some on-campus presence required
- Flexible scheduling within standard business hours
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced academic setting
Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States. The University will not sponsor applicants for this position for employment visas.
Shift
25 hours a week scheduled between Monday thru Fridays.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience
- At least 2 years of experience in instructional support, educational technology, or related field
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with LMS platforms
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Coursework or experience in instructional design, educational technology, or online learning
- Familiarity with accessibility standards (WCAG, ADA)
- Experience supporting faculty in higher education
- Knowledge of multimedia tools for online course development including accessibility features within Microsoft and Adobe Acrobat software
Anticipated Hiring Range
Salary Range: $35/hour
Grade: GGS-MKT
University Title: Temporary Professional
