Other Conditions: Contingent on course offerings and student demand, to begin approximately Spring 2026, availability of funds, and actual staffing requirements. The position may be converted from 11 to 9 months or 9 to 11 months based on operational needs.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Under general supervision, design, deliver, and assess instruction in Medical Laboratory Technology in terms of student-learning outcomes; develop and/or update course content and materials, and teaching and assessment strategies and methods to:
- improve student attainment of learning outcomes;
- address the learning needs of the college's diverse students;
- integrate thinking and writing skills into course content, as appropriate; and
- use technology to support instruction.
- Plan, organize, and independently carry out instructional and non-instructional assignments.
- Perform other teaching-related duties that include, but are not limited to, preparing course syllabi and maintaining office hours for academic advising and for conferring with students about coursework (one office hour per week per three-credit class).
- Regular workload may include evening and weekend classes, continuing-education classes, distance education classes, and teaching at off-campus sites.
- Non-teaching duties include:
- working collegially to provide service to the department and college,
- engaging in public service related to one's professional status and/or expertise,
- engaging in professional development, and
- engaging in professional or scholarly activities related to one's discipline or teaching.
- Perform related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Health or a Health-related field AND at least three (3) years of work experience in a clinical setting AND current Hawai'i MLS/MLT State License;
- OR
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Laboratory Science (MLS) AND at least three (3) years of work experience in a clinical setting, AND current Hawai'i MLS State License;
- OR
- Bachelor's degree in any field or discipline AND Associate's degree in Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) AND at least three (3) years of work experience in a clinical setting, AND current Hawai'i MLT State License.
Note:
- If qualified applicants are not available, others will be considered on an Acting Instructor basis.
- Minimum Qualifications must be met by the effective date of the appointment
Desirable Qualifications
- Successful teaching at the post-secondary level, as substantiated by student and peer assessments
- Experience with planning student activities, delivering engaging lessons, and evaluating student progress
- Demonstrated ability to work in a collegial manner with peers, department chairs, and administrators
- Experience integrating writing, technology, and thinking skills in the teaching of MLT curriculum;
- Demonstrated ability to write clear prose as substantiated by writing samples;
- Successful use of technology to support instruction inside and outside of the traditional classroom.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the community college with its open-door and multicultural populations;
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, execute, and complete projects, including setting specific objectives and measuring results.
