Job Description:
The Engineering Department at Westchester Community College has a tenure-track opening for an Instructor of Engineering in Mechanical Technology. The department is seeking a professional with a combination of both academic and industrial experience. The candidate should be comfortable in both the classroom and laboratory settings. Courses offered in Mechanical Technology in our department include: CAD (AutoCAD & Inventor), Manufacturing (both conventional and CNC), Manufacturing Processes, Thermodynamics, Mechanisms, Fluids, Statics, Dynamics, with an emphasis on Automation, controls and mechatronics.
Responsibilities include the following:
- Teach 15 hours a week.
- Hold a minimum of 5 office hours per week.
- Assist in the development and upgrade of curricula.
- Laboratory facility development and maintenance.
- Student advisement.
- Serve on department and college-wide committees.
- Participate in professional development.
- Active involvement in local professional organizations.
Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A minimum of a Master's degree in Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline and a minimum of one year teaching or trainer experience are required. The successful candidate will have the ability to teach courses at all levels. They must be able to work in a standard classroom as well as in the department's CAD, 3D, Machine, and Electrical Labs. Familiarity with the integration of technology into the curriculum is essential.
All candidates must have evidence of responsiveness to and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice within the classroom.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
A Professional Engineer (PE) license is preferred. A candidate with 2-3 years of industrial experience is preferred. Familiarity with industrial training needs is also preferred.

POSITION EFFECTIVE: Fall 2026
SALARY & BENEFITS: The starting salary is $75,170. Additional compensation with seniority steps maximize at a salary of $88,234. Further salary increases may be achieved through promotion to higher academic ranks. Benefits include comprehensive health coverage, a choice of defined benefit and/or defined contribution pension plan, generous leave benefits, and access to tax sheltered annuities and a deferred compensation plan.
