Position Description
The Writers’ Studio faculty and staff in the School of Applied Sciences and Arts, College of Integrative Sciences and Arts, at Arizona State University invites applications for two (2) First-Year Composition Instructor positions for the 2026-2027 academic year. The successful candidates will provide student-centered instruction of online first-year composition curriculum in the Writers’ Studio; teach online first-year composition courses (typically a 5/5 load) during the academic year; and work collaboratively with Writers’ Studio administration and faculty to provide an engaging online learning environment. We are especially interested in candidates with experience in online writing instruction who understand the unique challenges of teaching writing in digitally mediated, asynchronous, environments. Course load and assignments are determined by the Faculty Head of the Writers’ Studio.
These Instructor positions are fixed-term, full-time, benefits-eligible, 9-month academic-period appointments with no tenure implications. Renewal is contingent upon availability of resources, satisfactory performance, and the needs of the university. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

Essential Functions:
- Teach asynchronous online First-Year Composition courses for Writers' Studio as assigned by the Faculty Head/School Director (typically a 5/5 course load)
- Contribute to program initiatives in coordination with Instructional Designers and Faculty Head to develop and implement course curriculum
- Apply innovative teaching techniques and deliver excellence in teaching of the defined content for assigned courses
- Maintain active professional development, proficiency with course platform, and related educational tools
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in Rhetoric and Composition or related field, at time of appointment
- Evidence of two-years full-time, post-secondary experience teaching composition or related courses (or the equivalent part-time experience of a full-time student load)
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness
- Commitment to advancing the principles of the ASU Charter
Desired Qualifications:
- A terminal degree in Rhetoric and Composition or related field
- Three years full-time, post-secondary effective experience teaching composition or related courses (or the equivalent part-time experience of a full-time student load)
- Experience teaching asynchronous online composition or asynchronous online writing-intensive courses
