"Japan Program Postdoctoral Fellowship 2026-2027"

The Japan Program at Stanford University’s Walter H. Shorenstein Asia-Pacific Research Center is pleased to announce its search for a 2026-2027 Japan Program Postdoctoral Fellow on contemporary Japan. The award will be made to one junior scholar (recent PhDs must have degree conferral and approval by June 30, 2026) for research and writing on Japan.

The primary focus of the fellowship is multidisciplinary research including, but not limited to the areas of political science, economics, sociology, law, policy studies, and international relations of Japan. The postdoctoral fellowship is a 10-month appointment with an annual salary rate commensurate with university policies of $80,000, to be adjusted for the 10-month duration, plus benefits and up to $3,000 for research expenses. Appointments will begin in the fall quarter of 2026.
