DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Advise and support students on the professional school application process and the personal, academic, and professional preparation needed before applying. Create materials and utilize different strategies to support student knowledge of pre-health expectations. 2. Documents pertinent interactions with students to maintain records that are shared with advising community and utilized in advising data. Assists with data compilation and reporting, when needed. 3. Builds and maintains relationships with professional programs of interest to KSU students. 4. Creates, promotes, and/or presents workshops and networking opportunities to assist students in understanding expectations of a pre-professional student. 5. Creates or assists in the development of marketing materials pertaining to pre-professional/pre-health information. 6. Works closely with colleagues to support needs of the advising office, college, and university, at large.
Job Summary: Interviews and advises students regarding information, procedures and academic requirements of a specific program or major. Provides academic guidance and program information to students in the assigned college or program. Assists students in exploring careers, evaluating academic abilities and setting goals. Lead Academic Advisor designation may also be applied to certain leadership levels within larger advising units.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Provides high-quality academic advising services to current KSU students: develops multi semester degree planning following major curriculum guidelines, aligning students' academic interests and aptitudes with appropriate professional goals. 2. Connects students with appropriate academic and non-academic student services that promote their success. 3. Maintains thorough and accurate documentation of individual advising sessions. 4. Meets formally with students to develop meaningful connections. 5. Attends and participates in advising sessions for new and incoming students, both at orientation and in pre-Ignition advising sessions with students and families. 6. Develops partnerships with Enrollment Services to determine transfer credit evaluations and identify common challenges for transfer students. 7. Utilizes and incorporates best practices identified through the analysis of reports/analytics related to advising activity, student success metrics, etc. 8. Contributes to the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc. 9. Monitors the retention, progression, and graduation of students within the assigned population, and offer proactive outreach for those students who are at academic or social risk. 10. Leads advising sessions for new and incoming students, both at orientation and in preadmission advising sessions with students and families. 11. As appropriate, assists the unit in preparation of reports/analytics related to advising activity, student success metrics, etc. 12. Assists with the coordination of unit-level communication plans regarding key milestones, registration deadlines, academic resources, etc. 13. Provides second level oversight of retention, progression, and graduation of students within the assigned population, and offer proactive outreach for those students who may most benefit from timely advising interventions. 14. Participates and begins leadership in professional development opportunities offered through KSU and state, regional, and national organizations (KSAAN, NACADA, NAAHP, etc.).
Required Qualifications: Educational Requirements: Bachelor's from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field. Required Experience: Minimum four (4) years of experience as an academic advisor. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency in academic advising as evidenced by the peer, supervisor, and student evaluations, as well as student success systems and tools. Preferred Educational Qualifications: An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field. Proposed Salary: The budgeted salary is $55,440 - $61,360 annually.
