Job Summary

The La Follette School of Public Affairs is seeking to hire a full-time Lecturer in public policy to begin teaching during the Spring 2026 academic semester. This position will be an ongoing/renewable position. This position offers the flexibility of a 9-month or 12-month appointment.

The position involves teaching core graduate and undergraduate courses in public affairs, as well as upper-level electives and holding regular office hours for enrolled students. The position will teach three courses per semester (six courses in total) if hired as a 9-month appointment and two additional courses (8 courses in total) if hired as a 12-month appointment.

Candidates must be qualified to teach the following courses: PA 230 – Advancing Public Policy in a Divided America, PA 335 – Policy Actors, Institutions, and the Policy Process, PA 874 – Policy Making Process, and PA 878 – Introduction to Public Management.

It is preferred if candidates are also qualified to teach the following courses: PA 200 – Contemporary Public Policy Issues, PA 240 – Evidence-Based Policy Making, PA 340 – Advanced Evidence-Based Policy Making, PA 327 – Administrative Internship, PA 369 – Workshop in Public Policy, and PA 827 – Administrative Internship.

Key Job Responsibilities

  • Facilitates classroom, online and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses, including assessment of student performance
  • Develops instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction
  • Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations

The College of Letters and Science (L&S) is the heart of UW-Madison and home to a tremendous breadth and depth of departments and degree-granting programs in the humanities; natural, physical, and mathematical sciences; social sciences; and the computing, data, and information sciences.

Compensation

The typical starting salary for this position is $60,000 depending on qualifications and experience. Employees in this position can expect to receive benefits such as generous vacation, holidays and paid time off; competitive insurance and saving accounts; and retirement benefits.

Required Qualifications

  • Teaching experience required.
  • Experience teaching or working professionally in public policy related subject areas.
  • Demonstrated commitment to undergraduate education highly desirable.

Education

The qualified candidate must have a graduate degree in Public Administration, Public Policy, Law, Economics, Political Science, Business, or a related field. Candidates with a Ph.D. are preferred.
