The Department of Interdisciplinary Studies at Coastal Carolina University invites applications for a full-time, one-year Visiting Lecturer in Film Production to begin Fall 2025. We seek a dynamic educator and practitioner to support our rapidly growing minor in Film & Production Studies, which emphasizes hands-on learning and interdisciplinary collaboration.
The successful candidate will teach a 3/3 load of undergraduate courses in film production and related areas, as well as manage the Edwards College video and photography equipment library. Courses may include but are not limited to: Introduction to Film Production, Cinematography, Film and Culture: Ethnographic Film, Digital Video Editing, and Directing the Short Film.
In addition to teaching, the position will:
- oversee and maintain the Edwards College Video and Photography Equipment Library, ensuring student access to and training in the use of production gear,
- Organize the annual CCU Film Festival, a showcase of student work and community engagement
- Collaborate with faculty across departments (such as Music, Visual Arts, Theater, and Communication, Media, and Culture) to support interdisciplinary film initiatives and equipment needs
- Mentor students producing short narrative and documentary films as part of the minor’s experiential learning focus
Qualifications
- Terminal degree in Film Production or a related field at time of appointment
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching
- Professional production experience
- Proficiency in digital filmmaking and editing
- Understanding of and experience with equipment ranging from cameras (lenses and bodies) to microphones and lighting

Job Duties
- Teaches students in the classroom, laboratory, and/or studio.
- Prepares content, syllabi, and University Moodle/curricular site for each course and/or lab assigned each semester. Communicates to students after reviewing assignments. Calculates and assigns grades (e.g., mid-term and final) through established procedures listed in the Faculty Manual and University catalog. Tracks and reports absences as directed by the Office of the Registrar.
- Posts and holds regular office hours each week per College and University guidelines. Engages in University-related activities including committee assignments, meetings, ceremonies, events and scholarly pursuits as prescribed in the Faculty Manual.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
