Lecturer (Part-Time) - Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment
Position Summary
The Department of Psychology at Rosalind Franklin University of Medicine and Science in North Chicago, Illinois is seeking to fill a part-time lecturer position for a graduate level course during the Spring 2026 quarter. Spring quarter runs from 02/23/2026 - 05/15/2026. The Spring course meets for 3 hours per week on campus with a 1.50 hour asynchronous component. Upon approval from the Department Chair, a small portion of the course time may be delivered via asynchronous assignments.
Brief course description:
- HPCC 600 Substance Abuse Assessment and Treatment (4.5 QH) This course examines substance use and abuse as clinical problems. The psychological and physical effects of drug use and abuse will be examined and the process of addiction development will be explored. The role of socio-cultural factors in substance abuse and addiction will be discussed. Diagnostic criteria and empirically-based treatment approaches will be reviewed.
We seek an applicant with a doctoral degree in psychology who has past teaching experience at the graduate or undergraduate level. Individuals who have not yet attained a doctoral degree but have a master's degree and extensive experience in the area may also be considered. Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach classroom course
- Develop student assignments and exams
- Evaluate student performance on assignments and exams
- Serve as a resource for students
- Respond appropriately and in a timely manner to students
- Perform other related duties as needed

Required Education & Experience
The ideal candidate will have both:
- PhD or PsyD in psychology or MS in Counseling
- Experience in course content area

- Expertise in the area of personality broadly
- Knowledge of effective teaching strategies
- Ability to stimulate student thought through classroom interaction
- Ability to fairly and accurately evaluate student performance
- Ability to embrace diversity
- Effective written and verbal communication skills
- Effective interpersonal skills
