One-year Visiting Assistant Professor of Education

The Education Program at Colby College invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position, beginning September 1, 2026.
We seek a teacher-scholar (preferably with Ph.D./Ed.D. in hand) with expertise in sociology of education to teach the following courses: 1) an intermediate course on the role of schools in society; 2) an advanced course on social class and education or global issues in education; 3) two specialty courses related to sociology of education.
Qualifications
We are seeking candidates with a wide variety of backgrounds and experiences who, through their teaching, scholarship, and service, will promote access, opportunity, and inclusion across the campus community. Our students are motivated, intellectually curious, and easily engaged in the classroom and in independent research. The successful candidate will be familiar with the libral arts context, possess college-level teaching experience, and have an active research program that can interest and engage undergraduate students. The Education Department consists of four faculty members committed to critical youth development and promoting social justice in schools and society at large. We offer a major and minor in Educational Studies, and we offer Maine State Teacher Certification at the secondary level.
