Operations Coordinator, Stem-Cell NCRIS facilities

About This Opportunity

Join an established and highly regarded team, where you will be responsible for leading and managing the operations of the StemCore and AOF facilities at AIBN, UQ in consultation with facility staff and manager.

This is a unique opportunity to work with key stakeholders to support cutting edge research and innovation and to guide the development of important research facilities at AIBN and UQ. This role includes primarily the oversight and management of each facility’s QMS and ISO9001 accreditation.

You will report to the Director of StemCore and AOF.

Key responsibilities will include:

Core Research Facility Operations

  • In collaboration with the Facility Manager- StemCore/AOF, ensure that the strategic and research deliveries of the team/s are met;
  • Lead and manage StemCore’s operations, including overseeing the day to day administration of the facility and compliance with ISO9001 certification;
  • Maintain collaborative working relationship with research partners and stakeholders to ensure project activities are coordinated and running in accordance with agreed research protocols;
  • In collaboration with the Facility Manager- StemCore/AOF, assist in managing the financial affairs of the Facilities and oversee the preparation of financial budgets and reports for Stem Core for the Board and to meet other external reporting obligations;
  • Work alongside scientific staff to negotiate contractual arrangements, formulate quotes and oversee invoicing;
  • Oversee the ongoing development of each facilities Quality Manual and associated documentation;
  • Monitor and maintain the research group’s internal and external activities including social media accounts, website, webinars, and newsletters;
  • Other duties as determined by the Facility Managers.

Safety

  • Contributes to the safe and efficient operation of research equipment, infrastructure, methodologies and protocols
  • Ensures the appropriate storage, handling and disposal of chemicals, equipment, stores and/or samples/specimens

About StemCore and the AOF

StemCore is a national, state-of-the-art Pluripotent Stem Cell Core Facility within AIBN at the University of Queensland, that enables and accelerates stem cell research for academics and industries working in the area of regenerative medicine throughout Australia. StemCore offers a range of products and services, including provision of proprietary human embryonic and induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), cell characterisation, and comprehensive training programs. StemCore is managed by Stem Cells Limited, a non-profit biotech company established by The University of Queensland and Monash University.

The Australian Organoid Facility is a not-for-profit automation facility, providing quality-assured organoids for basic, translational and contract research. Our goal is to help Queensland researchers access organoids reliably and affordably to accelerate 3D biological research in Australia. We use state-of-the-art automation technologies to produce organoids at low cost. We are also equipped to optimally develop new organoid systems at scale and to perform sophisticated high-content analysis on complex 3D biological systems. We provide a reliable pipeline of organoids, which can complement pre-clinical studies for drug candidates or assist the development of biomaterials and micro-engineered biosystems.

StemCore and the AOF are national research infrastructure facilities in receipt of federal funding from the National Collaborative Infrastructure Scheme (NCRIS), and from the Queensland State Government and the University of Queensland.

About You

  • Completion of a Bachelor degree in a relevant field; or an equivalent combination of relevant skills, knowledge, experience and education/ training
  • Knowledge and experience of Quality management systems (including ISO9001) and the writing/review of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and related documentation;
  • Knowledge and experience in project management including adhering to timelines, budgets, data management and reporting;
  • Demonstrated high level interpersonal skills, including effective liaison and negotiation skills needed to develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders;
  • Strong attention to detail with demonstrated experience in contractual matters;
  • Demonstrated ability to work flexibly with high levels of initiative and autonomy.
  • Must be self-motivated and able to work constructively to objectives with limited guidance.

Desirable

  • Knowledge of pluripotent stem cell biology;
  • Experience in SmartSheet, Lab Archives and other online documentation and record keeping programs;
  • Experience in the operation of high quality National Research Infrastructure.
  • Knowledge of the University’s policies and procedures relating to Occupational Health and Safety, the Risk Assessment database, and the on-line Purchasing system.
