Part Time Assistant to the Director – Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center
POSITION SUMMARY
Reporting to the Director of the Simon Silverman Phenomenology Center, the Part-time Assistant to the Director supports the Director with day-to-day operations related to services, collections, archives, facilities, and programming. The Part-time Assistant will work 25 hours per week during the academic year and summer (48 weeks). Occasional night and weekend responsibilities are required.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Welcomes and assists visitors in finding materials, answers phone calls and takes messages
- Shelves books and journals, using Library of Congress classification system
- Sets up the Center for events by moving furniture, preparing A/V technology as needed.
- Performs clerical tasks such as monitoring supplies, organizing mailings, filing, scanning, and photocopying
- Helps edit and publish proceedings from the Center’s Symposia
- Helps process archives
- Assists the Director with special projects related to the work of the Center and other duties as assigned
- Completes other duties as assigned
Minimum qualifications
ABD doctoral student or extremely highly qualified master’s student with expertise and interest in phenomenological philosophy, psychology, theology, or communication. Alternately, the successful candidate may possess any equivalent combination of experience and training, which provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential job functions. This includes, but is not limited to, the following:
- Ability to learn and perform assigned tasks responsibly with little supervision
- Effective interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills; demonstrated computer skills including use of email and word processing and web maintenance and design
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the University Community
- Ability and willingness to contribute actively to the mission of the University and to respect the Spiritan Catholic identity of Duquesne University.
