Pay Range: $400 per day

Salary offers at Syracuse University will be based on education, experience, and relevant skills, as well as the academic or professional discipline of the position in the context of the home department, school, or college. Salary offers may also be influenced by prior relevant work or industry experience, where applicable. Faculty pay ranges are for 8.5 months salary unless otherwise specified.

Summer 2026 (June 29-August 7, 2026)
Class meets Monday-Friday 9:00-5:30pm. This position will work on Wednesdays and Thursdays
Office hours are required.

Job Description: The S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications in Syracuse University is looking for an individual to work with BDJ/SMC 675 D.C. Professional Experience at our DC Campus during Summer Session II 2026 (4 credits) on Wednesdays and Thursdays July 1-August 6.
Course Description: Broadcast news students taking part in the capstone are required to produce a minimum of one story per week for a Nexstar Media Group local station. Sports content creation students taking part in the capstone are required to produce a podcast series and vertical videos for Nexstar's digital streaming platform. The successful candidate will work with the lead professor and one other adjunct to mentor students on the development of story ideas into broadcast news packages, web stories, podcasts, and vertical videos. The person is expected to work with students on the writing, shooting, and editing of those pieces so that they are ready for air at a professional level.
Pay will be set based on the two days per week that the chosen hire will be working.
This position is located at 1333 New Hampshire Avenue, NW, 9th Floor, Washington, DC.
Qualifications:
- Significant journalism experience in a major market or at the network level.
- Teaching experience preferred. Bachelors degree required.
Job Specific Qualifications:
- Adobe Premiere and other broadcast industry standard tools/technologies.
Responsibilities:
It is understood that teaching assignments may include the following:
- Developing a syllabus.
- Ordering in advance books and materials for students in the class to purchase on or before the first day of classes.
- Preparing for classes.
- Holding office hours each week to meet with students in the class and others.
- Grading in a timely manner student assignments and examinations for the course; and turning in mid-semester progress reports and final grades according to University regulations.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to instruct the class on the days and times it is designated to meet.
- Ability to hold office hours on campus.
- Ability to grade all assignments and examinations.
Tools/Equipment:
- Ability to operate standard classroom instructional technology, which may include computer, projector, document camera, etc.
