Job Description

The Department of Sociology at Austin Peay State University is currently seeking qualified applicants to join our Adjunct Instructor Pool. This pool will be used to fill part-time, temporary teaching positions on an as-needed basis for upcoming semesters.

Adjunct instructors will teach undergraduate courses in sociology, which may include- but are not limited to-Introduction to Sociology, Social Problems, Race and Ethnicity, Gender and Society, and Sociology of the Family. Courses may be offered in-person, online, or in hybrid formats.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

• Prepare and deliver course content in alignment with department standards
• Evaluate and grade student work in a timely manner
• Maintain regular communication with students and department leadership
• Uphold academic integrity and foster a respectful learning environment

Physical Requirements

Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.

Required Minimum Qualifications

• Master's degree in Sociology or a closely related field from an accredited institution
• Demonstrated ability to teach effectively at the college level Strong communication and organizational skills
• A background search will be required of the successful applicant.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ph.D. in Sociology
• Familiarity with D2L

The number of adjunct instructors hired varies from semester to semester, depending upon the needs of the department.
