PhD Candidate Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law
Job Summary: The position involves conducting a four-year PhD research project within the Utrecht Centre for Accountability and Liability Law's program on adaptive liability law. The research focuses on the interaction between societal developments and the regulation, design, allocation, enforcement, and intended effects of responsibility and liability, such as in areas like new technologies, mass damage, climate change, and human rights violations. Proposals must cover at least two legal fields including administrative law, criminal law, private law, corporate law, and international law, and apply a multidimensional research method.
Responsibilities: Conduct PhD research under supervision; develop and execute research aligned with the program; share knowledge by participating in internal and external meetings; contribute to organizing events; allocate time for professional development, such as attending PhD courses; and provide teaching for a small portion of working time.
Qualifications and Requirements: A university bachelor's and master's degree in law; proficiency in Dutch and English at C1 level; strong interest in UCALL's research; ambition to perform innovative and thorough research leading to a PhD within four years; excellent research skills with openness to feedback; good verbal and written communication skills; ability to work collaboratively in a team, sharing knowledge and contributing to an inclusive environment; and willingness to teach for a small part of the time.
What the Employer Offers: A contract initially for 18 months, extendable to four years upon satisfactory performance; a workweek of 36 to 40 hours with a gross monthly salary ranging from €2,901 to €3,707 (scale P of the Dutch Universities Collective Labour Agreement); 8% holiday allowance and an 8.3% end-of-year bonus; pension scheme; partially paid parental leave; flexible working conditions; opportunities for professional development; and additional benefits like discounts on software and IT products.
