Description of programme/project/undertaking:
The project investigates how the interplay between the Staphylococcus aureus coagulases—staphylocoagulase (Coa) and von Willebrand factor-binding protein (vWbp)—and staphylokinase (Sak) affects fibrin clot formation, immune evasion, infection progression and the development of bacteraemia complications. During its implementation, the project has evolved towards the integration of genomic, phenotypic and clinical data, including bacterial genome analysis, phylogenetics, investigation of virulence-gene and regulatory variation, and identification of genotype–phenotype–clinical outcome associations. Consequently, the postdoctoral position is primarily intended for a computational biologist with an interest in bacterial genomics, bioinformatics and multidimensional biological data analysis.

Remuneration: Basic remuneration PLN ~8000 - 8800 gross/month plus the additional annual remuneration, allowance for years of service
Basic responsibilities and obligations
- Designing and conducting computational analyses involving the modelling of protein–protein and protein–small-molecule interactions;
- Contributing to the development and optimisation of analytical pipelines;
- Providing scientific supervision and mentoring to Master’s and doctoral students;
- Preparing scientific manuscripts and presenting research findings at conferences;
- Actively participating in research team meetings and international collaborations.

Conditions for entering the competition:
- Fulfilment of the requirements specified in Article 113 of the Polish Act on Higher Education and Science (Journal of Laws of 2024, item 1571, consolidated text);
- Fulfilment of the requirements specified in the Statute of the University of Warsaw;
- Fulfilment of the requirements arising from the regulations governing the allocation of funding for research projects financed by the National Science Centre under the OPUS 24 call;
- A doctoral degree in biological sciences, bioinformatics, chemistry, biology, or a related discipline;
- The doctoral degree must have been awarded either in the year of employment in the project or within the 12 years preceding 1 January of the year of employment in the project;
- At least three years of research experience in computational biology and/or bioinformatics;
- Experience in managing large datasets;
- Experience in independently planning and conducting scientific research;
- A scientific track record appropriate to the candidate’s career stage, particularly publications in peer-reviewed scientific journals;
- Scientific independence and strong organisational skills;
- The ability to work effectively as part of a team, including within an interdisciplinary research environment;
- A willingness to acquire new knowledge and further develop research competencies;
- Very good command of written and spoken English.

Criteria for the assessment of candidates in a competition
- Scientific achievements appropriate to the career stage, including publications in scientific journals related to the project topic — 20%;
- Research experience in microbiology, evolutionary biology, phylogenetic analysis, computational biology or bioinformatics — 20%;
- Experience in genomic data analysis, working on a server/computing cluster and managing large datasets — 20%;
- Match between the candidate’s competences and experience and the tasks planned in the project — 20%;
- Scientific independence, teamwork skills, command of English and willingness to develop new competences — 20%.

Stages of competiton
The competition consists of the following stages:

- Stage IV — final assessment of competences, experience and scientific achievements;
- Stage V — conclusion of the competition and announcement of the results.
