CSU seeks an engaged, innovative, visionary, strategic, and high-energy leader for the position of Professor and Department Head of HDFS.

The Department of Human Development and Family Studies (HDFS) is one of eight academic programs in the College of Health and Human Sciences at Colorado State University. Recognized as a top program in the United States, the HDFS Department is committed to excellence, setting the standard in teaching, research, and outreach for examining human development across the lifespan in the context of families, schools, communities, and culture.

HDFS is home approximately 90 employees, including 37 faculty, 49 administrative professionals and support staff. With more than 900 students in its undergraduate degree programs, the HDFS Department is one of the largest degree conferring departments at Colorado State University. Academic programs include Bachelor of Science degrees in HDFS, with multiple concentrations, and Early Childhood Education, leading to Colorado Early Child Education licensure in kindergarten through third grade. The Master of Science Degree in Human Development and Family Studies offers a general track and two specializations: Marriage and Family Therapy, accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Marriage & Family Therapy Education, and Prevention Science. The Doctoral Program in Applied Developmental Science a state-of-the-art training program in basic and applied research on human development, family, and prevention science theory and research from a lifespan ecological perspective, and the translation of research into evidence-based programs, practice, and policy. HDFS has over 60 graduate students across these degree programs and the online Master of Prevention Science Practice.

Faculty and student research is supported by the largest extramural funding portfolio in the college, with scholarship that spans topics such as child and adolescent development; risk, resilience, and developmental psychopathology; treatment, intervention. and prevention science; emotion regulation and relational process; and adult development and aging. HDFS is committed to the land-grant mission of outreach and engagement. The department is home to multiple centers and community programs, including the Prevention Research Center, the Early Childhood Center, and the Centers for Counseling, Assessment and Mentoring.
