Professorship of Cancer Therapeutics (Honorary Consultant)
Cambridge is home to a world-leading University with strengths in the biomedical and physical sciences; the UK's largest concentration of fundamental, translational and clinical cancer researchers within the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre (CRUK CC); two leading NHS Trust teaching hospitals (Addenbrooke's and Royal Papworth); and Europe's largest cluster of biopharmaceutical companies and 'start-ups'.
This cancer ecosystem is unrivalled in Europe for the training, recruitment and retention of world-leading, clinically-active, cancer trialists and translational scientists.
The dramatic growth of the CRUK CC over the last 10 years demands a greater focus of attention on clinically-active investigators who will translate the impact of our science from the laboratory to patients. This effort is of particular strategic importance given the imminent building of the new Cambridge Cancer Research Hospital (opening 2029). As such, we are establishing a new Professor of Cancer Therapeutics within the Department of Oncology.
The Clinical Professor of Cancer Therapeutics will work between Cambridge University Hospitals' clinical oncology service and their research base (50% clinical:50% academic). This will be a tumour-site agnostic appointment as we want to recruit the very best academic medical oncologist.
The successful candidate will provide dynamic, visible, clinical academic leadership within the NHS and facilitate cross-disciplinary working across the various clinically-active academics within the Department of Oncology.
This individual will also play a leading role in recruiting, mentoring and leading a series of new Assistant/Associate Professors for whom we have secured funding and will be key in further development and leadership of the Cambridge Cancer Trials Centre.
Depending on their research focus, applicants may be co-located within the Clinical Department of Oncology and/or the Cancer Trials Unit.
This position would be ideal for a candidate with substantial leadership experience, spirit of innovation, distinctive research achievements and a cutting-edge research plan for the next 5 years aligned with the aims and mission of the CRUK Cambridge Centre.
The successful candidate will have access to a generous start-up package.
This is an integrated appointment between the University and the relevant NHS Trust/ Body ("NHS Trust"). You will therefore also be issued with an Honorary Clinical Contract by the NHS Trust.
