Program Coordinator, Student Development and Involvement
Reporting to the Associate Director, Student Experience & Engagement, the Program Coordinator for Student Development and Involvement supports the overarching mission of the Department by fulfilling various objectives.
- Plan, implement, and assess large-scale events, workshops, and retreats related to non-positional student leadership development and initiatives, as well as group development, under the direction of the Associate Director.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for students interested in exploring non-positional leadership opportunities and getting involved on campus.
- Design and implement outreach strategies, initiatives, and programs to identify and engage students who are not currently in formal leadership positions.
- Provide programmatic support to the nascent Pathways initiative spearheaded by the Division of Campus Life and Student Experience.
- Develop resources that help students understand how to get involved in campus life and develop as leaders outside of traditional roles.
- Assess the impact and reach of non-positional leadership initiatives and continuously refine efforts to meet student needs and campus goals.
- Curate toolkits, reading lists, and exercises tailored to non-positional leadership skills (e.g., influence, problem-solving, empathy, initiative).
- Identify and develop new initiatives to address interests, needs, and emerging trends to foster community and a sense of belonging among students.
- Help individual students identify pathways for engagement and campus connection. Help students stay informed about campus opportunities and organizations of interest.
- Advise designated clubs, organizations, and student groups recognized by the Department.
- Serve on campus-wide committees focusing on the development, implementation, and evaluation of student leadership in collaboration with student groups, student leaders, and campus partners.
- Willingness to serve as a Strengths Coach and assist the Department and Barnard College with facilitating coaching sessions for student leaders, students, and other members of the Barnard community.
- Maintain and oversee designated budgeting and financial responsibilities at the direction of the Director.
- Contribute to department committees in the context of leadership and student development as needed, including but not limited to NSOP, Student Leaders in the Division, Student Recognition, Commencement, etc.
- Assist in staffing campus-wide programs and initiatives both via the Department and the College; may include some evening and weekend responsibilities.
- Other duties as assigned.
Skills, Qualifications & Requirements:
- Qualifications: Master's Degree in Higher Education Administration, Student Development, or a related field; 1-3 years of experience working in a higher education setting, ideally working with leadership development, student group advising, program planning, or student training; Strong communication, time management, and organizational skills; Experience working with the following software programs: Engage or other Anthology programs for organization management, Google Suite, Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe platforms; Positive approach to professionalism; Ability to work in a high-volume, high-traffic, and high-energy environment; Comfortable working as a member of a team and willing to be a member of the Barnard Community; Gallup certification preferred but not required.
