Gordon College is a Christian liberal arts college located in Massachusetts on Boston’s North Shore, a beautiful coastal area with easy access to Boston. Our graduate reading specialist program has the distinction of the “accreditation plus” rating by the International Dyslexia Association. We seek a program director excited to build on this legacy in a CPED-aligned doctoral program aiming to graduate scholar-practitioners ready to serve as the next generation of leaders, change-agents, problem solvers, and advocates within K-12 education, speech-language pathology clinical practice, education policy, and educator/SLP preparation.

Responsibilities:

  • Recruit, appoint, and supervise both part-time and full-time faculty as instructors and dissertation committee members;
  • Monitor the program budget and participate in the HSOE annual budgeting process;
  • Manage the maintenance of print and electronic records (e.g., course schedules, catalog copy, website, student handbook);
  • Oversee the curriculum and engage faculty in continuous improvement in light of annual assessment of program learning goals, student feedback, and student outcomes;
  • Teach online courses in area of expertise (e.g., science of learning; language and literacy; research methods, or leadership) and coordinate the annual summer institute;
  • Advise students and chair dissertation committees;
  • Seek grant funding;
  • Develop external partnerships;
  • Engage in research and scholarly activities that promote the institution as a thought leader; and
  • Engage in purposeful service to the institution and the profession.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • A commitment to the Christian mission of the College;
  • Earned doctorate in education, speech-language pathology, cognitive psychology, or a closely related field;
  • Expertise in the science of learning, language and literacy education, instructional leadership, and/or research methods;
  • Commitment to evidence-based practices to equitably support all learners, including culturally and linguistically sustaining practices;
  • Passion for mentoring cohorts of aspiring literacy leaders;
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education, education, or clinical practice;
  • Evidence of effective teaching, with preference for experience teaching in online settings;
  • Active research program with potential for student collaboration;
  • Strong interpersonal skills with ability to communicate and collaborate with faculty, staff, and students;
  • Strong organizational skills; and
  • Preference for prior experience working in an Ed.D. program and/or serving on dissertation committees.
