PSLP Secondary Education Program Manager
The School of Social Work (SSW) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill invites applications for a position as the Secondary Education Program Manager for the Public Service Leadership Program funded by 'The Workforce is Here: How to Support Thriving Communities and Healthy North Carolina Children, Individuals, Families, and Elders via Social Work Interventions and Research' grant program. This initiative plans to develop and offer a statewide, three-tiered public service certificate for both pre-service students at the high school, community college/undergraduate and masters levels and in-service practitioners currently employed in public sector social work settings. The purpose of these certifications is to spark interest in pursuing public sector career opportunities and, for those already engaged in the social work workforce, to add a credential to enable career advancement and acquisition and competency of advanced skills. Each certificate will encompass a core set of common elements: a degree and/or curriculum enhancement to leverage foundational instruction; a tuition-free credential, with curriculum development and instructional costs incurred and covered through the initiative; emphasis on direct service; content focused on North Carolina's critical service delivery areas; a virtual delivery model to enhance accessibility; and a co-instruction model of university faculty, agency professionals, and individuals with lived experiences.
The High School Pre-BSW certificate is expected to enroll 100 NC high school students annually into a 12-month certificate program spanning two academic semesters and a summer. This program is slated to reach 400 students across the 5-year grant cycle.
The Secondary Education Program Manager will report to the Assistant Dean for Workforce Development and will work closely with the Workforce Certificate Program Coordinator to develop, launch and implement the Pre-BSW certificate with high school students across the state of NC with expressed interest in pursuing social work/human services as a post-secondary career pathway. With the ultimate goal of fueling the pipeline of qualified NC social workers, this position will also be responsible for developing marketing and communications that highlight the role of social workers in NC, marketing the PSLP Pre-BSW certificate program in NC schools, recruiting student participants, conducting information/orientation sessions for prospective students and their parents, supporting the Workforce Development Enrollment Director and Coordinators with the processing of student applications, designing and facilitating in-person and hybrid learning experiences that extend student knowledge and exposure to social work related career areas and CSWE accredited programs within the NC Social Work Workforce Development Coalition, engaging state agency partners and community based non-profits in presentations and learning experiences for high school student participants, and monitoring high school program metrics and data that will be used to inform PSLP program evaluation reports and outcomes.
This position will be located in Chapel Hill NC and will require up to 25% travel to in-state NC schools and universities. Additional travel may include participation in national conference presentations.
