Research Teaching Specialist IV
Position Summary
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Research Teaching Specialist IV at the Rutgers Cancer Institute, Division of Pediatric Hematology/Oncology. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Teaching Specialist IV will conduct specialized research to investigate the malignant transformation of neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1)-associated nerve sheath tumors. The Research Teaching Specialist IV will conduct and execute research experiments and draft written reports for inclusion in peer-reviewed manuscripts. Additionally, the Research Teaching Specialist IV will maintain and run existing bioinformatic analysis pipelines using the high-performance computing resources at Rutgers University. The role will also include assisting in the coordination of a small laboratory.
Key Duties:
- Under the direction of the Principal Investigator: maintains and performs bioinformatic analysis of next generation sequencing data, including but not limited to data from RNA sequencing, whole exome sequencing, single-cell sequencing, chromatin immunoprecipitation DNA sequencing, and proteomics.
- Assists in the establishment of performance standards, as well as in the selection of methodology and instrumentation. May use animal models and clinical specimens collected from patients.
- Under the direction of the Principal Investigator: investigates, reviews, modifies, develops, and tests new analytical procedures and methodologies.
- Contributes to written reports in the format of peer-reviewed manuscripts and grant proposal, in a timely manner.
- Contributes to writing research protocols and protocol amendments as required for IRB and IACUC approval.
- Assists the Principal Investigator with development and writing of research grant proposals.
Minimum Education and Experience:
Master's Degree in Cell/Molecular Biology or a related field; or a Bachelor's Degree in Cell/Molecular Biology or a related field plus one (1) year of related research experience is required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Standing, sitting, walking, talking and hearing. No special vision requirements. Lifting up to 25 lbs. WORK ENVIRONMENT: Laboratory environment. Moderate noise. Exposure to blood, excrement, antineoplastic drugs and possible exposure to infectious and communicable diseases. Universal precautions are mandatory. Exposure to hazardous chemicals.
