Research Technical Support Specialist
Description of Work:
Procure, set up, support, and troubleshoot workstations, laptops, and other personal computing devices used in research activities by faculty and students in the department. Evaluate technologies, make recommendations, procure, configure, maintain, and troubleshoot servers, appliances, equipment, and applications that support research and instructional computing. Maintain and manage virtualization environments to provide users with remote Windows and Linux virtual machines for research and instructional purposes, including the allocation and optimization of GPU resources. Develop and maintain scripts and simple web applications to support these computing environments.

Minimum Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, software engineering, or related computing fields.
- Knowledge of multiple operating systems such as Linux, Windows or MacOSX.
- Familiarity with server and workstation administration, server services such as Apache, Glasfish, etc. or a strong programming background will be considered as equivalent.
- Scripting or programming knowledge in support of task automation and simple web application development and maintenance.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Two years of desktop and server administration, network printing, OS and application troubleshooting and debugging.
- Knowledge of Windows Server 2016, Active Directory, Java application hosting using Jboss or similar.
- Knowledge of multiple programming languages such as Perl, PHP, Ruby on Rails, C/C++, Java, Windows Power Shell, etc.
- Knowledge of MySQL or Postgres administration and programming.
- Familiarity with techniques in prevention, identification, and removal of malware and viruses; and familiarity with VMware in VM server administration and VMware client creation, provisioning and troubleshooting.
Posted Salary:
$58,000/year minimum
