Senior Auditor, Internal Audit Office
The University of Montana invites applications for a Senior Auditor for the Internal Audit Office. The Senior Auditor independently plans and performs operational, compliance, and financial audits and provides advisory services in accordance with internal auditing standards.
Examples of Duties and Responsibilities
- Performs research of state and federal regulations, and university policies to plan and conduct audits of the university's operational, compliance, and financial areas
- Meets with University personnel to understand and assess departmental and campus-wide systems and processes
- Evaluates the design and effectiveness of internal controls and examines university records, transactions, and processes to determine whether objectives are being met
- Takes on difficult and complex assignments
- Documents their work in a detailed, logical, and consistent manner
- Communicates observations, recommendations, and other audit results to university management through written reports and orally in meetings
- Develops and maintains professional and business relationships with all levels of university employees
- Performs follow-up reviews to ensure that audit recommendations were implemented by the agreed-upon due dates
- Assists the Director with developing the annual work plan and office policies and procedures
- Supervises Staff Auditor and Audit Analyst as assigned, including review of work and coaching
- Performs administrative and other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, business, finance, information systems, or related field, and a minimum of three (3) years of progressive experience in auditing, accounting, tax, compliance, business analytics, information systems, business administration, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience
- CPA, CIA, CFE, or equivalent certification, or ability to obtain the relevant certification within eighteen (18) months of hire
- Possess and apply an advanced level of knowledge of auditing, accounting, information systems, management, and other operational practices, concepts, and terminology
- Ability to manage multiple projects with designated timelines
- Ability to perform tasks with a high degree of accuracy and with close attention to detail
- Ability to maintain confidentiality of university, employee, and student information
- Ability to adhere to a professional code of ethics
- Ability to work successfully both independently and in teams
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in accounting, business administration, finance, information systems, or a related field
- Experience in higher education, government auditing, or accounting
