Remuneration: $135,483 to $153,562 pa (HEW8) (inclusive of $114,485 to $129,761 salary pa, 17% superannuation and 17.5% recreation leave loading)

Open to: Current staff members of QUT who have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of the fixed-term appointment. Who are we looking for?
We are seeking a Senior Project Specialist to join School of Mathematical Sciences, Faculty of Science.
The Senior Project Specialist will support the development of the Australian Environmental Health (AusEnHealth) platform. AusEnHealth is a federally funded research project that brings together environmental, demographic, and health data to support research and decision-making across sectors. This role will focus on the systematic identification, acquisition, documentation, and management of data from a wide range of custodians across Australia. The position supports the preparation and onboarding of datasets into a national-scale data warehouse that will support the platform’s suite of statistical models and analytical tools.

The School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS) is a vibrant, multidisciplinary school with extensive teaching and research programs covering the fields of statistics, operations research and applied and computational mathematics. The mathematics discipline at QUT is ranked 3rd in Australia (ScholarGPS Lifetime ranking). There are currently 30 full-time academic staff members employed in the School, including nine Professors and six Associate Professors. The school also employs over 20 research only academic staff in full time and part time positions. Over the past five years staff of the school have held ten prestigious Australian Research Council fellowships including eight ARC Discovery Early Career fellowships and two Future fellowships. The School hosts a node of MACSYS, an ARC Centre of Excellence for the Mathematical Analysis of Cellular Systems and is a key partner in QUT's Centre for Data Science.
What you need to succeed
- Education, training and/or relevant experience equivalent to the completion of postgraduate qualifications or progress towards postgraduate qualifications and extensive relevant experience.
- Demonstrated experience in acquiring, preparing, and managing complex spatial and time-series datasets, ideally involving environmental, demographic, or health-related data.
- Demonstrated skills in data analysis tools, such as R or Python, with the ability to perform data wrangling, cleaning, and quality assurance.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively within interdisciplinary teams and to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders, including external data custodians.
- Demonstrated organisational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks, prioritise deadlines, and maintain accurate records of work with minimal supervision.
