Senior Technologist (Physical Properties)

Who are we looking for?

We are seeking a Senior Technologist (Physical Properties) to join Research Infrastructure, Research Portfolio, Academic Division.

This Senior Technologist (Physical Properties) position will enable research and provide solutions to academic and industry clients through delivery of expert services to, and training of, end-users. The Senior Technologist (Physical Properties) will focus on the provision of high-level technical expertise in project design, initiation, delivery and reporting. The position will also provide second line support for other laboratory operations as required.

Research Infrastructure includes the university’s Central Analytical Research Facility (CARF). CARF hosts a range of characterisation, analysis and ‘omics’ capabilities, underpinned by $30M of cutting edge technologies in microscopy, mass spectrometry and sequencing, to name a few. These capital investments are effectively leveraged with a dedicated team of research fellows, specialists and technologists, circa 50 FTE. CARF is predominantly located within the Science and Engineering Centre with additional nodes at the Gardens Point campus and distributed sites..

What you need to succeed

  1. Education, training and/or experience equivalent to completion of a degree with subsequent relevant work experience.
  2. Evidence of deep knowledge and substantial experience in at least two of the following: thermal analysis, thermoelectric measurements, gas adsorption analysis, particle sizing, rheology and other soft matter testing techniques, mechanical property testing.
  3. Demonstrable experience of providing training and user support in multi – user facilities.
  4. Evidence of innovative approaches to problem solving and physical properties analysis expertise to answer research questions.
  5. Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills to support collaborations with internal and external stakeholders and promote connectivity with industry clients.
  6. Knowledge of, or ability to rapidly acquire knowledge of policies and procedures (including ethics and intellectual property) associated with the establishment of research and commercial projects.
