Job Summary

The Department of Special Education and Social Foundations within the School of Education at GGC invites applications for an Assistant Professor of Special Education. The successful candidate will possess expertise in high-incidence disabilities and will be committed to the academic success of all our students. This individual will teach primarily in the online special education program and professional responsibilities include teaching courses, providing field supervision, serving as a faculty mentor, engaging in service commitments, and conducting research.

GGC seeks applicants with a demonstrated commitment to preparing aspiring special educators to teach, advocate, and promote excellence in their classrooms. This is a ten-month on-campus position with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2026.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in special education
  • Minimum of three academic years of PK-12 experience teaching students with high-incidence disabilities
  • Availability to teach day, evening, and weekend courses

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with teaching in online environments and other modalities (e.g., synchronous, asynchronous, hybrid)
  • Experience with serving children and youth with high-incidence disabilities
  • Sustained professional engagement that demonstrates relevance and currency in the field of special education
  • Experience teaching in advanced programs

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

ABILITIES

  • Ability to perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations
  • Ability to provide academic mentorship to students
  • Ability to coordinate, supervise, and mentor students in field experiences;

KNOWLEDGE

  • Evidence of postsecondary teaching effectiveness
  • Evidence of effective communication and interpersonal skills

SKILLS

  • Demonstrated, or the potential to demonstrate, a record of high-quality teaching, service, and research
  • Sustained professional engagement that demonstrates relevance and currency in the field of special education
