Student Accommodations Specialist WSU Tri Cities
The Opportunity
The Student Accommodations Specialist is responsible for establishing best practices in the areas of student disabilities accommodations and testing services. The Student Accommodations Specialist provides direct service and case management regarding accommodations for students with disabilities, provides consultation to students and family members, faculty, staff and administrators, offers individualized coaching, and develops and leads trainings. In accordance with University policies that adhere to state and federal rules, regulations, and laws pertaining to FERPA, Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, ADA 1990 and 2008, this role manages the campus process for reviewing documentation, assigning and implementing reasonable accommodations, and evaluating the effectiveness of accommodations. The Student Accommodations Specialist works with system-wide student accommodation and disability resources offices and resources personnel on policy development, implementation, and interpretation.
The Student Accommodations Specialist is also responsible for maintaining a professional testing center by independently coordinating the activities and functions of the alternate testing program for WSU Tri-Cities and providing alternative testing for community members and hosting specialized exams. Primary responsibilities include coordinating the daily center operations and providing technical and educational assistance to faculty, staff and students to ensure effective accommodation and equal access and inclusion for students with disabilities.
Additional Information
This is a full time (100.0% FTE), permanent position. This position is overtime eligible. Monthly Salary: $4,386.85 - $5,000.00 | Commensurate with experience and qualifications. Required Qualifications
Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Additional Requirements
Experience providing academic advising and academic adjustments/accommodations to students with disabilities, or equivalent education/experience. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal skills. Strong computer skills to include working with databases, spreadsheets and word processing.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in a relevant field (Higher Education, Student Affairs, Counseling, Social Work, Rehabilitation Counseling). One to two years direct experience serving students with disabilities in higher education. Knowledge and understanding of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act, the ADA and other pertinent federal and state laws that provide for an accessible higher education experience for disabled students. Knowledge of universal design and assistive technologies for people with disabilities. Knowledge of student development and student affairs theory. Ability to effectively work as a member of a team and to work collaboratively with others. Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills.
