Hollins University in Roanoke, Virginia is seeking qualified candidates for a Student Success Navigator.

About the Role

The Student Success Navigator serves as a central role in the operations of and service for The Green and the Wyndham Robertson Library. This role provides concierge-like service for students, ensuring a warm reception with quick access to services they need. The position is focused on student care, helping them navigate their needs in The Green, following up after appointments to build trusting relationships, and tracking data and producing reports to measure the effectiveness of support services.

Additionally, this position provides administrative support for offices located within The Green and the library. Proactive communications and collaborative interactions with staff in offices that constitute The Green (Student Success Coaching, Career and Life Design, the Center for Learning Excellence, Global Learning, and HU Connect) and the library are essential in the daily tasks of this role.

The navigator reports jointly to the Director of Career and Life Design and the Assistant University Librarian.

Specific duties include the following:

  • Student Engagement and Support: Serve as the first point of contact for students visiting The Green providing a welcoming, student-centered presence. Conduct seamless referrals to relevant offices and ensure timely follow-up and continuity of care. Monitor student alerts and respond to student inquiries.
  • Operational Excellence and Administrative Support: Provide daily logistical, operational, and administrative support for offices located in The Green. Oversee cleanliness and supply inventory for shared spaces. Coordinate scheduling and room usage for The Green’s or the library’s communal or shared spaces including the conference room in The Green. Manage library material orders. Attend and support meetings for The Green and the library.
  • Data Management: Handle check-in data and general data entry, report generation, and ensure data quality in The Green’s databases, particularly for student visits and utilization metrics.
  • Event Support: Coordinate student-centric activities sponsored and initiated by The Green and the library, ensuring smooth logistics and a hospitable environment. Collaborate with library staff to schedule and support events in other commons spaces and classrooms in the library. Support library events and assist with catering orders and logistics.
  • Team Collaboration: Contribute to the overarching goals of The Green and the library and the team members located within. Actively engage in data collection and processing, strategizing, and planning in support of activities of The Green.
  • Social Media and Marketing: Creatively represent The Green and the library by helping create flyers and social media marketing for events and support the execution of marketing plans. Act as a liaison with Printing, Mailing, and Shipping for special print needs.
  • Fiscal Support: Assist with credit card management and reconciliation for The Green and the library. Manage the library’s budget, including check requests and budget line tracking.

Position Qualifications

Successful applicants must have the following qualifications and experience:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience
  • Experience creating highly welcoming and personable environments, especially for young adults
  • Experience with data visualization and data management
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills
  • Excellent organizational, time management, multitasking, detail, and accuracy skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Abilities to work adaptively in a collaborative environment with frequent interruptions and fluctuating priorities and to meet deadlines
  • Abilities to work independently, as a member of a team, and without supervision at times
  • Abilities to manage confidential and sensitive information and maintain discretion
  • Ability and willingness to occasionally work outside normal business hours in support of department/office activities

Preferred candidates will have the following:

  • College degree
  • Prior administrative or reception role in higher education
  • Previous experience in a higher education setting working with various stakeholders including students and their families, faculty, staff, alumnae/i, and campus guests
