JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Director, Student Involvement

Division: Student Affairs

Evaluation Group: Staff Administrator

FLSA Status: Exempt

Reports To: Assistant Vice President, Student Affairs

Positions Supervised: Associate Director, Student Involvement and Program Manager, Student Experience

Job Summary

The director of student involvement and first year programs oversees 60+ student organizations and supervises the entirety of the Student Involvement and Student Experience program areas and staff, which includes Fraternity & Sorority Life, Lindenwood Student Government, First Year Experience, Second Year Experience, First-Generation, Commuter and Transfer programs, New Student Orientation initiatives, the Campus Activities Board (CAB), and Leadership and Student Development programming. The director cultivates a strategic vision to leverage engagement to promote student belonging and persistence.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Maintains responsibility for the upkeep and maintenance of Mane Connection, the student organization management system
  • Creates and maintains policies for student organizations, student government, and the CAB
  • Analyzes assessment data to measure success of Student Involvement initiatives
  • Provides oversight for wellness initiatives, such as Engage in Eight and Partners in Prevention.
  • Chairs and/or participates in campus-wide collaborative planning for activities, such as Homecoming and Family/Friends Weekend and New Student Orientation
  • Participates in strategic enrollment events, such as Mane Event, scholarship events, and Future Lions Day
  • Serves as the University’s Student Involvement liaison with campus/community agencies
  • Prepares semester and annual reports detailing first year retention and cohort persistence data in collaboration with the associate vice president, advising and retention
  • Collaborates with the faculty director of first year seminar in the coordination of First Year Seminar classes through design, facilitation, evaluation, logistics, and syllabi

Leadership and Strategic Thinking

  • Establishes long- and short-term strategic goals based on assessment data and ensures standards for the department and its field are met or exceeded
  • Adapts and modifies leadership based on new information and/or data; works to set and unite people on the new direction
  • Utilizes effective strategies to build collaboration for maximum execution
  • Aligns division/department purpose and actions with relevant University initiatives and higher education trends
  • Remains updated on best practices for Student Involvement through participation in ongoing listservs and professional development
  • Serves as student government advisor and appoints other student government advisors
  • Trains leadership of student government and leadership of student organizations through the Student Leadership Institute
  • Oversees assessment for Student Involvement and uses data to inform goal setting and strategic planning

Employee Management and Development

  • Supports the mission of the University and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports, and holds others accountable to the University’s values
  • Recruits, interviews, recommends, welcomes, observes, and monitors performance of department staff
  • Sets clear performance expectations and holds employees accountable
  • Conducts annual employee evaluations based on evidence, observation, and feedback
  • Manages human resources reporting for the department including personnel matters

Job may require other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Master’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years’ work experience in higher education, educational leadership, and/or student services
