Summer Assistant
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit:
The Gillings School of Global Public Health is ranked by US News and World Reports as the number one public school of public health in the United States. Our faculty, staff, and students solve some of the most pressing health problems in North Carolina and around the world. At Gillings, we conduct novel, innovative research that changes public health practice, influences policy, and improves the quality of people’s lives.
Position Summary:
The Summer Assistant will provide support across three Central Administrative Units of Gillings Research, Innovation@Gillings, and the Office of Global Health. Our units work to serve the entire school to support and promote the work in all three areas. This role helps design, develop, plan, organize, and distribute resources for events and activities related to our missions. Examples include programs in research (including curating data about Gillings research and highlighting the impact of our research program), global health projects and strategy, and innovation-related programs, events, and initiatives. The Summer Assistant also develops content and distributes information important to SPH faculty, staff and students in a timely and accurate manner through various media channels including newsletters, websites, blogs, video and social media.
This role also captures, curates, analyzes, and distributes information about productivity, trends, and faculty expertise within the School. Products include website content, annual progress reports, Gillings Gift program reports, global health program management, and capacity statements related to our faculty expertise. This role also monitors and communicates current policies, practices, trends, and opportunities such as research funding opportunities, legislative and policy-related matters, and other pan-campus activities and initiatives. This role also provides general miscellaneous office support such as scheduling meetings and taking minutes as needed.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Management Preferences:
- Demonstrated experience in program management
- Strong organization and prioritization to ensure work products and solutions are delivered on time and to a high standard
- Understanding and sensitivity to lived and cultural differences with an ability to work effectively with individuals with different lived experiences
- Proficiency using Microsoft Excel, Word and PowerPoint
- Customer-service oriented
