About the Job
The Department of Political Science at the University of Minnesota Duluth (UMD) seeks a full-time, non-tenure-track teaching assistant professor or an instructor with an emphasis in Public Law for a one-year position, in person appointment with a potential to renew if there is instructional need. The successful candidate will have a 4-3 course load. The candidate will offer two courses in Constitutional Law and one introductory research methods course for undergraduate students. The candidate will also be required to offer introductory courses in Political Theory and/or American Government. One asynchronous online section of American Government is possible. Other upper-level courses can be in public law or in a subfield of the candidate’s preference. We seek a candidate with a PhD in political science or a related field. The appointment will begin August 18, 2026. Review of applications will begin March 30, 2026.
Qualifications
Required qualifications:
- MA or MS in Political Science or related field
Preferred qualifications:
- Ph.D. or J.D. in Political Science or related field.
- Two years of teaching at the collegiate level.
- Evidence of strong written communication skills and the ability to work with diverse groups.

The Department of Political Science is in the College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences (CAHSS) offering majors and minors in political science and international studies and a minor in social analytics.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range:
Instructor: $44,156 - $49,856 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Teaching Assistant Professor: $49,892.25 - $66,523 per year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
Position Type: Faculty and P&A Staff
