CMU is seeking a Temporary Payroll Manager to modernize global payroll operations, enhance compliance, and mentor a high-performing team in the Finance Division. Core Responsibilities:

  • Operational Leadership: Manage day-to-day domestic and international payroll for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Process Transformation: Identify and implement process improvements and system enhancements to reduce risk and increase efficiency.
  • Team Development: Supervise, coach, and distribute work for payroll staff while fostering a service-focused culture.
  • Compliance & Tax: Oversee year-end processing (W-2s), tax filings, audits, and complex pay situations (union, expat).
  • Collaboration: Partner with HR, Finance, and IT to lead workflow redesigns and system upgrades.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor's degree required.
  • Experience: 10-15 years in payroll with 5-7 years of supervisory experience.
  • Skills: Proven success in organizational change and complex payroll landscapes.
  • Preferred: Workday experience and CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) certification.
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.

Sponsorship: Applicants for this position must be currently legally authorized to work for CMU in the United States. CMU will not sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa for this opportunity. Carnegie Mellon is not a qualifying employer for the STEM OPT benefit: only the 12-month OPT may be used to work at Carnegie Mellon
