Training and Development Specialist II

This position, in partnership with the cHOP team, is responsible for the design, development, administration, evaluation and implementation of training seminars, workshops and programs related to the SIU School of Medicine's cHOP programs with an emphasis on expansion into the community and also annual trainings  The position provides consultative services to leadership and independently manages assigned programs and projects to advance organizational effectiveness.

*This position is ON SITE only.*

Administration: 5%

  1. In partnership with the cHOP team, develop, implement and maintain a plan for the expansion of the SOM's Center for Human and Organizational Potential's reach.
  2. Collaborate with cHOP team to coordinate key activities and deliver the cHOP activities
  3. Assess and evaluate the quality all services and programs provided for the purpose of being able to consistently offer state of the art products
  4. Assess risk associated with changes and initiatives and develops plans to mitigate.
  5. Serves as consultant to leaders and faculty as they implement and adapt training and development strategies and tools in the effort to meet organizational needs.
  6. Develop and execute marketing and promotional strategies for Training and  Development services.
  7. Serve as a liaison for Training and Development between the School of Medicine and community groups, hospitals, external consultants, affiliates, and other partners.
  8. Partner with Human Resources for specific projects including new employee orientation, learning management systems and school-wide online learning initiatives.
  9. Participate in School of Medicine and SIU Medicine committees as needed.

Training and Development Consulting: 30%

  1. Design and implementation of specific Training and Development services focused on Culture, Wellness, Professional Development, and Leadership Development.
  2. Conduct comprehensive performance and learning needs analyses for School of Medicine departments and SIU Medicine Clinics; develop targeted development strategies based on findings.
  3. In collaboration with cHOP team, consult with leaders and faculty of all levels to address the development and workplace culture/satisfaction needs of all learners and employees.
  4. In collaboration with cHOP team, oversee, implement, and present the employee engagement survey for all School of Medicine and SIU Medicine employees.  Partner with SIU School of Medicine and SIU Medicine leadership to create and monitor action plans in response to employee satisfaction survey results.

Professional Development and Wellness Coaching: 30%

  1. Collaborate on the initiative to educate School of Medicine and SIU Medicine leadership and faculty in various methods of Performance and Engagement Coaching.  Conduct coaching training certification workshops and seminars.   Develop and deliver instructor led and asynchronous training courses.
  2. Provide coaching services at the School ofMedicine and SIU Medicine.
  3. Provide Professional Development Coaching to School of Medicine and SIU Medicine leadership, faculty, and emerging leaders.
  4. Manages the individual development plan and planning process for participants of the Professional Development Coaching program
  5. In coordination with HR, provide remedial coaching interventions addressing employee performance or a lack of adherence to the School's Behavior Standards
  6. Evaluate coaching outcomes and provide aggregate reporting to leadership on program effectiveness.

Employee and Community Training and Education: 30%

  1. Design and create employee development training courses and programs.
  2. Design, create, market, and deliver community-based training courses and programs
  3. Present school-wide training programs, courses, and workshops designed to improve the capacity and performance of participants.
  4. In coordination with HR, participate in ongoing development and delivery of new employee orientation.
  5. Collaborate on the school-wide new employee Onboarding framework and strategies.
  6. In conjunction with cHOP Leaders, assist in the development of the SIU School of Medicine Leadership Competency Model that will be utilized as the foundation to develop and train all leadership staff within the School and SIU Medicine.
  7. Design and produce advanced E-Learning courses in Professional and Leadership Development using the Learning Management System; analyze completion and other learning metrics.

Learning Management System - Research: 5%

  1. Contribute to organization development research within the School's academic healthcare setting.
  2. Collaborate with the Office of the Associate Dean to contribute to contract and grant proposals related to organizational development and workforce initiatives.

Qualifications

  1. Any one or any combination of the following, totaling four years (48 months), from the categories below:
    1. credit for college training leading to a major or concentration in education or other fields related to training and development such as human resource administration or business administration or closely related fields
      • 30 semester hours equals 12 months
      • 60 semester hours equals 24 months
      • 90 semester hours equals 36 months
      • 120 semester hours or a Bachelor's Degree equals 48 months
    2. credit for college training leading to a major or concentration in fields other than those previously listed
      • Bachelor's Degree equals 3 years (36 months)
      • Master's Degree equals 4 years (48 months)
    3. work experience as a human resource or training professional
  2. Four years of professional work experience in the training and development profession comparable to those listed for the Training and Development Specialist I1

1A Master's degree in education or other fields closely related to training and development (such as human resource administration or business administration) or a Master's degree with a concentration in these fields may be substituted for one year of such experience. (The Master's degree may be substituted for experience only once, however, in satisfying the requirements of this class; i.e., the degree cannot be used to satisfy both credential requirements 1 and 2.)

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSA's)

  1. in-depth knowledge of educational terminology, theory, and methodology
  2. proficiency in working with operations managers, staff, and the public in the area of training and development
  3. proficiency in writing and editing reports and other materials in the training and development area
  4. ability to supervise subordinate employees
  5. ability to organize work operations in the training and development area and coordinate them with other organizational units
  6. ability to review and formulate/revise policies and procedures in the training and development area

Condition of Employment
