Funding:
These positions are funded by multiple TRIO Student Support Services grants through August 31, 2026, but may continue until August 31, 2030, if additional funds are allocated by Congress.
Bargaining Unit/Salary Range:
$20/hour with a weekly schedule ranging from 10-20 hours per week during the academic year
Job Summary:
The TRIO SSS Academic Tutor is responsible for providing individualized and small group tutoring to students who are actively participating in the federally funded TRIO Student Support Services program. TRIO SSS serves 250 EMCC students a year who are first generation, income eligible, and/or have a documented disability. In addition to tutoring, tutors will need to maintain tutoring records in a database and participate in occasional TRIO events during scheduled hours. TRIO and tutoring training will be provided upon hire.
Peer mentors work with a caseload of TRIO mentees to provide 1:1 structured support to strengthen their academic skills. Mentors assist mentees with time management, organization, college onboarding, problem solving, self-advocacy, connecting them with resources, etc. Mentors report to the TRIO Academic Advisor and work collaboratively with the entire TRIO team. TRIO and mentor training will be provided upon hire.
Opportunities exist for hybrid tutor/mentor positions.
Minimum Qualifications:
Associates degree from an accredited college (or 60+ credits from a 4-year institution) with a 3.0+ cumulative GPA. Demonstrated experience working with students and/or individuals from diverse social, economic, academic, and cultural backgrounds.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills; understanding the wide range of EMCC students needs, and ability to relate to a diverse student body.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Bachelors degree and ability to provide community college students with a variety of academic supports. Demonstrated experience working with at-risk students, including those who are first generation, low income, and/or students with disabilities and/or individuals who have succeeded in overcoming barriers similar those of SSS eligible students. Preference will be given to graduates who participated in a TRIO SSS program.
