General Summary
The Vocational Nursing Faculty member primarily located in Andrews, TX is responsible for delivering high-quality nursing education and supporting student success in alignment with program and institutional standards. While most teaching assignments are in Andrews, the position may occasionally require instructional duties in Odessa to support program operations and scheduling. The faculty member is expected to foster a positive learning environment, maintain compliance with applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements, and collaborate with colleagues to ensure consistency and excellence across all instructional sites.
Specific Position Duties
- Maintains up-to-date knowledge in the teaching field.
- Demonstrates willingness and ability to teach various courses, schedules, locations, and delivery methods as needed and reasonably requested by the college.
- Utilizes appropriately challenging coursework to help students realize their full potential as learners.
- Provides students with clear written expectations, including syllabi, course policies, assignment instructions, and graded evaluations.
- Develops and administers assessments appropriate to course content, including comprehensive final examinations that measure overall mastery of course objectives.
- Through instructional practices, affirms the worth and dignity of all individuals and supports the right of all persons to learn.
- Maintains an appropriate learning and assessment environment in traditional, online, or distance learning settings that encourages the free exchange of ideas while upholding academic honesty and objectivity.
- Prepares thoroughly for class and arrives promptly for all scheduled instructional activities, including lectures, labs, and other assigned sessions.
- Delivers course material in a clear, organized, and understandable manner.
- Addresses student concerns, including comments, questions, and feedback, in a timely and professional manner through class interaction, office hours, electronic communication, and other appropriate means.
- Effectively manages routine procedures necessary for the successful day-to-day operation of the department, as delegated by the department chair.
- Submits required reports and schedules to the department chair in a timely manner.
- Develops and maintains effective professional relationships with colleagues throughout the college and the community.
- Provides academic advising to students regarding degree plans and degree applications to support completion requirements.
- Assists with recruitment, marketing, and outreach efforts for departmental programs.
- Actively participates in college functions and events.
Minimum Qualifications
- Hold a current, unencumbered license or privilege to practice as a Vocational Nurse (LVN) or Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of Texas.
- Possess prior clinical nursing experience in a relevant healthcare setting.
- Demonstrate competency in current nursing practices, patient care standards, and applicable regulations.
- Ability to integrate clinical expertise into instructional settings and support student learning outcomes.
- Familiarity with current healthcare technologies, electronic health records, and clinical documentation systems.
- Commitment to professionalism, ethical practice, and continuous improvement in both clinical and instructional roles.
Preferred Qualifications
Teaching experience in a nursing or healthcare education setting preferred.
