Job Summary
The Woodworking Classroom Assistant provides in-class support to ensure access to course content and participation for a student in a woodworking environment. This role focuses on facilitating engagement without altering the fundamental components of the course or academic standards.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities & Knowledge Skills & Abilities
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist with notetaking during lectures and demonstrations.
- Describe surroundings and course content clearly and accurately to support comprehension.
- Provide guidance in using touch screens, controls, or other classroom equipment as needed.
- Offer assistance when course materials are presented in formats that are not independently accessible to the student.
- Deliver clear verbal warnings to alert the student of potential hazards in the woodworking environment.
Restrictions:
The Classroom Assistant will not:
- Participate in class discussions.
- Provide coaching or assistance on tests, quizzes, or graded assessments.
- Complete any portion of the student's assignments or projects.
Safety Expectations:
- Maintain awareness of all tools, machinery, and moving parts in the classroom.
- Communicate immediate hazards clearly and promptly (e.g., sharp tools, hot surfaces, moving equipment).
- Ensure that pathways and workspaces remain clear and safe for navigation.
- Follow all woodshop safety protocols, including wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) when required.
- Report any unsafe conditions or incidents to the instructor immediately.
Minimum qualifications
- Strong communication skills and ability to provide clear, concise descriptions.
- Comfort working in a woodworking environment and understanding of basic safety protocols.
- Ability to maintain professional boundaries and uphold academic integrity.
- High School Diploma
Preferred Qualifications
- Familiarity with woodworking tools, equipment, and shop safety procedures.
- Experience providing descriptive assistance or support in hands-on learning environments.
- Ability to anticipate and communicate potential hazards effectively.
