XOCOM Assistant Dean for Student Success
Job Summary
Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM) is accepting applications for the position of Assistant Dean for Student Success. The Assistant Dean for Student Success is responsible for administration of all XOCOM Student Success Center activities and assists the Associate Dean for Student Affairs in matters involving student discipline and accountability issues regarding academic standing, professional conduct, and implementation of student-related institutional policies.
The Assistant Dean for Student Success provides support for students throughout their academic journey, encompassing academic advising, career development, and overall well-being. They work closely with faculty, staff, and students to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment. This key position will report directly to the XOCOM Associate Dean for Student Affairs. The XOCOM Assistant Dean for Student Success provides a wide range of student development and support services, including but not limited to, providing leadership for a quality student life program, oversight of the Student Success Center, including such services as learning enhancement, counseling, and career planning. In addition, the Assistant Dean for Student Success plays a leadership role on various XOCOM committees that address such issues as student wellness, student academic performance, and student academic support.
About Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM)
In February 2024, the Xavier University of Louisiana Board of Trustees and the Ochsner Health Board of Directors approved the partnership to develop the Xavier Ochsner College of Medicine (XOCOM), becoming the fifth allopathic Historically Black College and University (HBCU) medical school in the country.

Xavier and Ochsner have been working together since the early 1980s. Through their ongoing partnership, Ochsner and Xavier have advanced healthcare equity through several programs, including a program for physician assistants that has already graduated 108 students. In addition, Ochsner has 33 wide-ranging, accredited residency and fellowship programs. By creating this new medical school, XOCOM is taking a big step toward improving healthcare for all the communities they serve. Together, they will train doctors who care deeply about their patients and understand the importance of health outcomes for all and high-quality medicine.
Minimum Qualifications
- MD, DO, PhD, EdD, or equivalent degree with a minimum of 5 years of academic medicine administration experience in such roles as assistant/associate dean, course director, residency director, or clerkship director at an LCME-accredited US Medical School.
- Knowledge of and prior experience with LCME (Liaison Committee for Medical Education) accreditation, NRMP, and MSPE.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a leadership role within a higher education setting, preferably in student affairs.
- Experience in working with academic and administrative departments and developing and implementing academic policies and procedures.
