Adjunct Instructor, Technical and Workforce Courses at Polk County Center, Livingston, TX
Job Summary
While all qualified adjunct applicants are encouraged to apply, Lamar State College Orange, Lamar State College Port Arthur, and Lamar Institute of Technology has openings for the Spring 2024 semester for instructors in the following fields: Accounting, Business, Computer Information Systems, Construction Management, Cosmetology, Court Reporting, Criminal Justice, Cybersecurity, Graphic Design, Heating, Air Conditioner & Refrigeration, Information Technology, Logistics Management, Medical Coding, Medical Office Administration, Nurse Aide, Paralegal, Patient Care Technician, Real Estate, Vocational Nursing, Welding. Adjunct Instructors must be qualified and competent to teach applicable courses within the degree and certificate programs. Hours vary, depending on the need and course schedule, and may include day, evening, and/or weekend classes. This is not a posting for ONLINE instructors. Classes will be delivered at the Livingston, Texas Polk County Education Center. Physical Requirements: This position requires the ability to: remain in a stationary position for most of the time; occasionally move about inside an office to access documents, office equipment, etc.; constantly operate a computer or other office equipment, such as a printer or copy machine.
Minimum Qualifications
Possess an earned Associate’s degree in the discipline from a regionally accredited institution or License or certificate in the discipline plus years of relevant work experience in the discipline. Possess good time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in teaching discipline, or higher. Experience teaching in higher education. Related field and/or industry certifications, if applicable. Knowledge of teaching methodologies/pedagogical strategies.
Salary
$800 per credit hour (based on course load) or paid hourly based on course type.
Essential Job Functions
- Teach courses at the Livingston, Texas Polk County Center as scheduled and actively engage with students in the learning process.
- Provide feedback to students and respond to student communications in a timely manner.
- Maintain ethical and professional behavior.
- Attend adjunct faculty meetings.
- Assess courses on departmental and institutional levels.
- Complete required training, such as Blackboard Online Instructor Certification and Title IX Training, etc.
- Take advantage of the professional development opportunities offered by The State Colleges and Sam Houston State University (SHSU) Faculty Development Trainings to continually refine and improve professional knowledge and teaching skills.
- Adhere to the policies and procedures contained in the TSUS Rules and Regulations and State Colleges’ Policies and Procedures Manuals.
- Other related duties, as assigned.
