Basic Function/Overview: THIS IS A TEMPORARY, HOURLY AS NEEDED POSITION WITHOUT PERMANENT STATUS. This is a CONTINUOUS recruitment for an applicant POOL to fill part-time, temporary, hourly assignments on an as-needed basis.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Teach classes primarily for older adults in-person in the communities surrounding Mt. SAC.
- To teach information that is accurate and in compliance with the current course outline of record.
- Be prompt and regular in attendance at all class meetings and adhere to scheduled dismissal times.
- Prepare thoroughly for all class assignments.
- Prepare all records and reports accurately and completely.
- Submit records and reports to the proper offices within established deadlines.
- Adhere to ethical principles governing interactions with students and colleagues.
- Cultivate a supportive inclusive environment that promotes success of a diverse student body.
- Be reasonably accessible to students.
- Participate in professional development activities in order to increase personal expertise in both subject matter and teaching techniques.
Minimum Qualifications:
A. The minimum of one of the following awarded/conferred from a regionally accredited institution:
- A bachelor’s degree; and two years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught.
- An associate degree; and six years of occupational experience related to the subject of the course taught.
- Possession of a full-time, clear California Designated Subjects Adult Education Teaching Credential authorizing instruction in the subject matter.
- For courses in an occupation for which the district offers or has offered apprenticeship instruction, the minimum qualifications for non-credit apprenticeship instructors in that occupation, as specified in Section 53413.
- California Community College credential, “Valid for Life” (no longer issued), authorizing service as an instructor in the appropriate discipline; refer to Ed Code § 87355.
AND
B. Commitment to the community college goals/objectives of providing quality programs and services for students with diverse abilities and interests; personal qualities to work effectively and sensitively in a multicultural environment; awareness and commitment to the special needs of non-traditional students.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Communicate effectively to students orally and in writing.
- Experience with older adult (55+) population.
- Experience teaching in community-based settings.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook applications.
- Knowledge of the course measurable objectives (CMOs): Patternmaking techniques with proper tools and terminology including pivot, slash, and spread and draping methods. Sizing by measuring and constructing a personal fit basic block set. Proper fitting techniques including tracing to muslin, sewing, and then fitting dress form. Machine and hand cutting and marking tailoring techniques. Use of interfacings, underlinings, linings and boning. Basic machine quilting techniques and modern machine piecing techniques.
