Arctic Innovation Fellow
Position Purpose
Reporting to the Director of the Institute of Arctic Studies, the Arctic Innovation Fellow will advance Dartmouth's leadership in addressing critical Arctic and Cold Regions challenges through research, partnerships, and policy-relevant scholarship. The Fellow will oversee research and partnership initiatives, coordinate with faculty affiliates and visiting scholars, develop seminars in Arctic science and policy, and coordinate policy-relevant convenings to generate meaningful scholarship, collaborations, and solutions to Arctic and Cold Regions challenges.
Required Qualifications - Education and Yrs Exp
PhD plus 6 or more years' experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- 6+ years of experience in environmental and international affairs as a policy advisor or academic scholar.
- Proven ability to independently manage complex projects with sound judgment.
- Expertise in Arctic climate, environment, security, Indigenous Knowledge engagement, and diplomacy.
- Strong understanding of international and US policy-making processes and institutions.
- Commitment to ethical, equitable knowledge co-production with diverse partners.
- Demonstrated success in building collaborative relationships with stakeholders.
- Exceptional skills in writing, analysis, presentations, and communication.
- Ability to lead and coordinate efforts across diverse knowledge systems.
- High ethical standards and discretion with sensitive information.
- Strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and travel domestically and internationally.
Description
Research & Partnership Development
Provides strategic oversight and coordination for IAS activities that enhance Dartmouth's leadership in Arctic and Cold Regions policy-relevant research, programming, and partnership development. Collaborates with Arctic Indigenous communities and global partners to co-create ethical, equitable research and policy solutions. Key initiatives include: Advancing "Distinctive Dartmouth" Arctic & Cold Regions Scholarship; Maintaining and Building Dartmouth's Strategic US-Canada and International Arctic Partnerships; Arctic Research Engagement Protocol Training.
Percentage Of Time: 55%
Policy-Relevant Convenings
Develops and manages policy-relevant events, workshops, conferences, and initiatives to amplify scholarly and policy-relevant impacts. Facilitates collaboration among IAS faculty affiliates, postdoctoral scholars, Senior Arctic Fellows, and visiting scholars to advance policy-relevant Arctic and Cold Regions research, education, and outreach. Coordinates outreach and engagement with IAS Faculty Affiliates, IAS Fellows, and IAS Visiting Scholars.
Percentage Of Time: 20%
Policy-Engaged Arctic Programs & Seminars
Collaborates with the Guarini School to support dialogs regarding potential PhD policy track connected to the EEES graduate program and other partners. Partners with Rauner Library and the Hood Museum to encourage faculty engagement with Dartmouth's Arctic and polar collections through creative programming and outreach. May develop and teach one course or seminar per year to support student learning in policy-relevant Arctic issues in area of expertise.

Grant-writing, Fundraising, Stewardship
Works with IAS Director to create opportunities for new funding through the cultivation of relationships with donors and grant-writing for high-value funding opportunities from US and international philanthropies, governments, and organizations. Supports IAS Director in ensuring highest-level stewardship of current Arctic endowments and gifts, helping to develop appropriate outreach and reports of annual activities.
