Assistant Professor in Exercise Science (Tenure-Track )

The Department of Kinesiology at Berry College invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in Exercise Science to begin August 2026. The department seeks a faculty member who is committed to excellent undergraduate teaching and can continue or establish a productive line of research, preferably with undergraduate students as co-investigators. This position will be responsible for delivering key content within the exercise science major, such as exercise physiology and exercise assessment, and prescription.

The Department of Kinesiology is a dedicated, collegial five-person department committed to providing applied and experiential learning in the classroom, in the laboratory, and through internships and career-centered student work opportunities. The Department of Kinesiology's office suite, classrooms, and current research labs are housed in the Cage Center, a 131,000 sq. ft. facility with a 2,000-seat arena for varsity athletics, a natatorium, an expansive fitness center, racquetball courts, and an indoor walk/jog track among its many amenities. To support the program, the College has constructed a new health-sciences building with an additional 2,300 sq. ft. of dedicated teaching and laboratory space for Kinesiology. The building also houses Berry's BSN Nursing program and a graduate Physician Associate Program. Many opportunities exist for different lines of research in Exercise Science laboratories that are well-equipped, and faculty have access to a diverse participant population, including NCAA Division III athletes as well as residents from The Spires at Berry College, a continuing care retirement community located on campus, offering opportunities for faculty research as it relates to nutrition, wellness, and rehabilitation.

In addition to a commitment to excellence in teaching, service, and an active research program, the faculty member should possess a strong interest in mentoring students in a residential college environment. Faculty are expected to involve undergraduates in their research, serve as academic advisors, and contribute to the vitality of the campus and professional communities through their service. Start-up funds are available, along with competitive internal research support and assistance in seeking external funding.

Requirements:

Applicants must hold a Ph.D. in Exercise Science or a closely related field, and candidates who are currently ABD should earn their Ph.D. by the date of employment.
