Assistant Professor of Mathematics
Position Summary
The Department of Mathematics and Statistical Science is seeking to hire a new tenure-track faculty member at the Assistant Professor level at the Moscow campus. We are looking for an applied mathematician with a strong background in analysis who can teach undergraduate and graduate courses on topics such as differential equations, complex analysis, measure theory, probability, or stochastic processes. The faculty member should have a strong potential for collaborating in current and future research initiatives at the University of Idaho such as the COBRE in Nutrition and Women’s Health, drug discovery, and water resources.
Instructional duties include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in mathematics (typically two three/four-credit courses per semester) to support mathematics education at the university and the BS, MS, and PhD programs in mathematics and mentoring and advising students. Scholarship duties include conducting research in applied mathematics, disseminating research through publications in refereed professional journals, and seeking external funding to support research activities. Service duties include serving on department and university committees and participating in recruitment and retention efforts. Outreach duties include participating in activities related to community involvement and serving in the professional community through reviewing manuscripts and proposals and conducting workshops.

Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications
- PhD in mathematics, applied mathematics, or closely related field.
- Experience researching applied mathematics
- Experience teaching mathematics at the college level
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience in a closely related field
- Strong commitment and ability to teach at both undergraduate and graduate levels, particularly some of the core courses in analysis
- Strong commitment and ability to acquire external funding
- Ability and interest in collaborative multidisciplinary research
