Associate/Full Professor in Multidisciplinary Engineering and Computing Education, Systems and Management

Florida International University (FIU) invites applications for an Associate or Full Professor of Computing Education; Engineering Education; or Engineering and Computing Education. The Multidisciplinary Engineering and Computing Education, Systems and Management (ESM) Department is part of FIU's College of Engineering and Computing. The Department houses four degree programs: a Bachelor of Science in Interdisciplinary Engineering, a Master of Science in Engineering Management, a Master of Science in Logistics Engineering, and a Ph.D. in Engineering and Computing Education. Our Ph.D. program is the first engineering education doctoral degree at a minority-serving institution (MSI) and the first computing education doctoral degree program in the US. The department’s values include working together in order to support the development of students across its programs. ESM also works to empower its community of stakeholders to advance the educational outcomes of both current and future ESM learners. As a team, the department promotes a positive and affirming environment for all.

Faculty in ESM work collaboratively with faculty in the STEM Transformation Institute (a community of Discipline Based Education Research [DBER] and STEM education faculty) as well as with other departments in the College (Mechanical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Computer Science, etc.) to conduct innovative funded education research in their discipline and advance the transformation of undergraduate and graduate engineering and computing education. FIU has a vibrant STEM education community, and there are also ample education research opportunities afforded in Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach counties. Miami-Dade and Broward Counties are home to the nation's largest and 4th largest state colleges and two of the largest public school districts.

Successful candidates will be expected to establish/maintain a strong research program (external funding, peer-reviewed scholarly work, national/international collaborations, mentoring of undergraduate/graduate researchers), teach/design transformative courses in and/or outside of ESM degree programs, and provide service to the Department, the College, the University, and nationally/internationally to their disciplinary communities. Successful candidates will also have demonstrated alignment with the mission and vision of ESM.

We are seeking tenured/tenure-track faculty at the levels of Associate or Full Professor. Background required at the time of employment includes an earned doctorate in either:

  • Computer science or a related field (e.g., data science)/engineering/or another STEM-based field, with a demonstrated scholarly focus on education research
  • Education-related discipline, with a demonstrated topical focus on engineering or computing

Recommended background, commensurate with level of experience, includes:

  • Scholarly activity (e.g., grant funding, peer-reviewed publications and presentations) and capacity to lead research projects and teams
  • Teaching experience and quality, with potential for and interest in teaching at the bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels
  • Mentoring experience
  • Evidence of/potential for cross-disciplinary collaboration within FIU and with external partners
  • Service efforts, within and external to the institution

Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply to Job Opening ID# 536597 at careers.fiu.edu and attach a cover letter, curriculum vitae, a research statement, a statement of teaching philosophy, and a statement describing alignment between the candidate/the candidate’s work and the mission and vision of ESM. The cover letter should refer explicitly to the qualifications and responsibilities described above. Candidates will be requested to provide names and contact information for at least three (3) references who will be contacted as determined by the search committee. Review of applications will begin February 12, 2026. Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
