Summary of Position
Provide general financial aid advising in both English and Spanish, including campus workshops, calling and emailing campaigns, and community outreach. Provide bilingual English/Spanish assistance to Red Rocks Community College students navigating campus and community financial resources to help meet their basic needs, including community and government assistance programs, and federal and state financial aid. Serve as the Single Point of Contact for unaccompanied homeless youth, CASFA applicants, and state aid programs for former foster youth and unaccompanied homeless youth. Limited evening and weekend hours required as needed, as well as transportation to community outreach events.
Work is generally performed in a standard office environment. Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm or 9:00 am to 6:00 pm. May require hours outside of regular office hours, including some evenings and weekends. Primary location is Lakewood with regular shifts at the Arvada campus. May require travel between campuses and off-campus for outreach events.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Advanced proficiency in spoken and written English and Spanish, with the ability to translate clearly, accurately, and professionally across diverse settings.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, critical thinking, time management, organizational, and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to problem solve and use sound judgment.
- Ability to plan, evaluate, and manage competing priorities.
- Ability to set well-defined goals, display a high level of initiative, and be successful under minimal supervision.
- Attention to detail and ability to meet established deadlines.
- Ability to handle numerous complex and routine tasks simultaneously while managing a high volume of phone calls, emails, and student contacts.
- Commitment to equity and quality customer service.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution or equivalent combination of education and/or relevant experience.
- Two years of customer service experience.
- Bilingual in English/Spanish.
Preferred Qualifications
- One year of experience in a Financial Aid office or Higher Education Student Affairs.
- Knowledge of and experience with applying for and/or navigating community resources such as SNAP, housing assistance, etc.
- Demonstrated commitment working with and supporting students from diverse populations, which may include but are not limited to, historically marginalized populations such as people of color, LGBTQ+ community members, veterans, first generation graduates, and people with disabilities.
Physical & Cognitive Demands
The following are some of the physical and cognitive demands commonly associated with this position.
- Occasionally moves, positions, and transports files and office materials weighing up to 10 lbs.
- This is largely a sedentary role. This position operates in an office environment and constantly uses a computer, and routinely uses standard office equipment including phones, copiers, etc.
- The person in this position constantly communicates with internal and external constituents and students. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
- Cognitive demands include comparing, copying, computing, compiling, analyzing, coordinating, synthesizing, negotiating, communicating, instructing, and interpersonal skills.
