This is to fill 2 vacancies.
The Financial Aid Advisor II, under direction, counsels and provides student financial aid and scholarship information to prospective and currently enrolled students and their families. Facilitates workshops, develops and makes presentations on and off campus to groups regarding financial aid and scholarships. May coordinate or specialize in a specific program. May provide some mentorship and training to other staff.
"The salary is determined in accordance with the University’s compensation structure and will be commensurate with the candidates’ education and experience, within the assigned salary range for this position."
Responsibilities:
- Serves as the lead expert regarding financial aid verification, including reviewing eligibility information, determining conflicting information, addressing complex verification issues, professional judgment/special circumstance review, and processing verification compliance reports. Under the supervision of the Program Coordinator II (verification) of Financial aid, will provide oversight of the federal verification process for Title IV financial aid eligibility including, but not limited to, collecting income tax and other necessary documents and counseling financial aid applicants (and parents and spouses, if applicable) to ensure compliance with Federal Title IV Financial Aid regulations.
- Assist Enrollment Services with escalated customer service concerns and assists front-line advising staff in their efforts. Works to provide customer service to internal and external constituents as well as delivery of financial aid services to customers. Counsels students and parents, and constituencies regarding financial aid opportunities, procedures, University policies and eligibility requirements for aid. Assist, when needed, with monitoring the flow of the phone queue, office lobby queue, and front desk customer service. Ensures that the service needs of students and families are met and facilitates the escalation of problems and complaints to Enrollment Services.
- Responds to escalated inquiries from prospective and current students, parents, and spouses regarding verification and federal Title IV financial aid and sends verification and follow-up notices to students selected for verification and to resolve conflicting information.
- Conducts, monitors, and/or reviews and Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) process, as needed. Serves as a member of the Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) appeals committee and is back-up for the review of students' SAP.
- Conducts presentations and training for staff regarding the verification process and federal grants. Keeps abreast of new IRS tax laws and Department of Education Title IV financial aid regulations, especially relating to Federal Grants and verification regulations.
- Maintains communications with other departments on and off campus. Interacts with individuals and groups including VP’s, Directors, University administrators, systems users, students, staff, public, federal and state government and agency officials, secondary and post-secondary educational institution representatives. Participates financial aid committees, financial aid outreach events, public speaking engagements, in professional development training, attend financial aid conferences, and be active in professional financial aid organizations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Education & Experience:
Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of training and experience. One year of related experience.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications.
- Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, rules and regulations.
- Ability to multitask and work cooperatively with others.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Customer Service skills.
- Ability to work individually or as a team.
- Ability to organize and make decisions.
- Ability to relate well with a student population.
Preferred Qualifications:
Three years of related experience.
Other Requirements:
Must be able to work evenings and/or weekends. Must not be in default or owe an overpayment of a federal and/or state aid program.
Special Requirements:
Applicants with equivalent experience in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree may be considered. One year of the related experience is the equivalent of one college year. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have four years of related experience to meet the equivalency in lieu of a Bachelor’s degree plus the minimum required years of experience. Applicants being considered for the equivalency must have a total of five years of experience.
