Job Summary
Arapahoe Community College is seeking a detail-oriented and collaborative Budget Analyst to support the development, analysis, and administration of the College's general fund and sponsored program budgets. This position plays a critical role in ensuring budgetary compliance, supporting data-informed decision-making, and fostering financial transparency across academic and administrative units. The analyst will apply accounting principles and state fiscal rules to monitor expenditures, prepare reports, and recommend adjustments aligned with institutional priorities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Analyze income and expenditure trends to support forecasting, planning, and budget adjustments.
- Prepare and maintain budget reports, dashboards, and documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
- Provide training and technical assistance on budget development, policy compliance, and system usage.
- Support the development and presentation of annual, quarterly, and multi-year operating budgets.
- Collaborate with other departments to align budgetary planning with staffing and student FTE allocations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited institution in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field OR a combination of education and relevant experience. Equivalencies will not count toward the experience below.
- Two (2) years of basic professional accounting experience, including tracking expenditures, reviewing budget-to-actuals, and applying foundational accounting principles within a higher education setting.
- Knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and government accounting standards for higher education institutions.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced features such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, multi-tab workbook management, and conditional formatting; experience developing data visualizations (e.g., charts, graphs, dashboards) to support budget analysis, forecasting, and reporting.
- Demonstrated analytical skills, datamining skills, and spreadsheet capability.
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficiency with Banner or a similar computerized financial system.
Preferred:
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with diverse stakeholders.
- Strong understanding of financial management principles and practices in a higher education setting.
- Experience with Colorado Community College System (CCCS) financial policies and procedures.
- Working knowledge of fund accounting and budgetary compliance for both unrestricted and restricted funds.
- Ability to interpret and apply college policies, state regulations, and sponsor agency guidelines.
