Cashier Supervisor

Position Announcement

At Utah Valley University, the Cashier Supervisor oversees the daily operations of the cashiering function within the Bursar's Office. The role ensures accurate, secure, and timely processing of student and departmental payments, while delivering excellent customer service to students, non-students, faculty, and staff. The supervisor is responsible for management and training of staff, cash handling, compliance, reconciliation processes, and maintaining strong internal controls.

Summary of Responsibilities

  • Supervise a team of employees nurturing a cooperative work environment. Monitor, create and implement training for cashiering staff. Manage employee issues and provide feedback (both positive and constructive) to facilitate the cashiers' knowledge and competence in accomplishing their assigned tasks. Examine operations/procedures and develop and implement new strategies. Supervise and/or assist with daily cash counts of all monies maintained by the cash office.
  • Instruct UVU departments in the Fee Card process and manage, track, and report, student completion of fee cards to departments. Coordinate, upload, and process, the Concurrent Enrollment billing statements monthly. Provide comprehensive web deposit training to UVU departments. Troubleshoot problems that arise and report issues that cannot be resolved to the applicable team. Upgrade, resolve, and report issues with POS and cashiering terminals.
  • Reconcile cashier daily totals, resolve any discrepancies, balance and record online payment reports, and prepare bank deposits daily. Inventory and order office supplies as needed. Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Qualifications / Licenses / Certifications

  • Graduation from an accredited institution with a Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related discipline and two years experience, OR an Associate's degree and four years experience directly related to the position summary, OR any combination of education and experience totaling 6 years directly related to the summary of duties.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Business Management.
  • Experience using Banner software.

Knowledge / Skills / Abilities

Knowledge

  • Knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and UVU policies. Knowledge of cash management, internal controls, and security.
  • Knowledge of computer systems and software including spreadsheets, databases, word processors, accounting software, and Windows operating systems.

Skills

  • Skill in supervisory techniques and customer service.
  • Skill in problem-solving and decision-making.
  • Skill in examining and re-engineering operations and procedures and developing and implementing new strategies.
  • Skill in teaching and training others.

Abilities

  • Ability to utilize and maintain an automated accounting system.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to research and analyze information, use deductive reasoning, and resolve conflicts.
  • Ability to supervise employees to include organizing, prioritizing, and scheduling work assignments, and complete all associated personnel action and access forms in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Ability to foster a cooperative work environment.
  • Ability to keep confidential information private and maintain a high level of integrity.
  • Ability to maintain organized/accurate records and files.
  • Ability to motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance in job-related tasks.

Salary: $48,845.00 - $57,464.00 Annually
